Calling Dev... Hollywood prices
12 years 4 days ago
Dev, would you be so kind as to get someone to explain to me (and possibly others) exactly what is happening with the prices Hwood offer. I was just having a quick glance at the odds for Friday's meeting at Arlington and I have noticed, as I often do, that many of the prices are showing huge changes already between what is shown as the opening price and the current price.
I have no idea when the prices were put up (is there a standard time prices are put up for future meetings?) but I think it must have been some time today. I find them very "strange", just as a couple of examples:
Race 7 has #12 Danavano really drifted so quickly from 12/1 to 33/1?
Race 6... the following are showing as backed...
#1 33s to 16s
#8 7s into 9/2
#10 25s to 16s
#11 14s to 5s
#13 10s to 5s
#15 25s to 12s
There are numerous similar examples. Market moves (rightly or wrongly
) can obviously affect how a punter approaches a particular race or individual horse. It is hard to believe that all these horses have been backed causing such significant movements already but I suppose that maybe so.
Any chance someone could come on and clarify for me exactly what is happening because I confess, being an idiot
, I find it difficult to fathom! (tu)

Its the speed, number of horses involved and huge price changes that I don't get Bob. If the prices shown as the opening prices were available and have all genuinely been backed sufficiently to justify such movements then fair enough, hence why I am asking the question. If not though, it is presenting a false impression to punters and that is obviously not good for us mugs! (

Tell that to the owner who thinks the trainer and someoe with stable info has fleeced him for the price.

lol Bob, as I said that may be so but I would like to have that confirmed if so... sitting there waiting for a price on 6 different horses in one race and backing them heavily enough for such movements. its a little hard for me to believe. And the drift on Danavano? I am not accusing anyone of anything here, I would just like clarification so I understand. It does potentially paint a false picture and where money is concerned I think we have a right to know exactly what creates the picture we see, that is all.

maybe South African bookies should work like the uk bookies then and price up at 9am on the day of the race?

there is a massive oppurtunity for betting world driven by phumalela to attract punters by laying decent sized bets compared to the other groups...if they want to increase market share and believe in their oddsmakers then they should pursue this avenue....

Two weeks ago Sustain Space when it won its 2nd outing in PE it opened up 12s and drifted to 50s. Now this horse won its first outing in PE after coming from the Cape and its post maiden victory was followed by a 6th. What was eye catching to it was owned by the Becks. Now that was value after the drift. So far i have made money on all 3 of its victories in PE. My ATM

To be honest guys, and not being rude hopefully to anyone, this was just a genuine request for clarification purposes. I posted it rather than sending Dev a PM thinking it might be beneficial to other clanners too. I have no right to ask but I think it might be a good idea not to discuss/debate, go off the subject etc and just wait to hear what Hwood have to say... and unless it is worthy of a lynching lol, accept what they say or perhaps suggest changes to the information they show us which might portray a more accurate picture. So, I am just hoping there is no real debate here, just an answer from Hwood (tu)

I think its simple English,Hollywood and the other bookies open early but the market is extremley weak and tbh is not worth a sook.So basically they can be knocked over for little money...The guys that are stealing or taking the early prices are doing so for no money and ruining the market for everyone else...
