Way way way too long between races imo Bob... and gaps filled with boring clap-trap. And sh1t how often did we have to endure Sheldon Peters today, endured it as long as I could but turned volume off when it eventually became unbearable.
To be honest, I got bored with it ages ago thanks to TT's continual, monotonous references to it, which all seem designed to make people gamble irresponsibly. In fairness though, the advertising did end up being quite comical for a while with the farcical run-up to the "big day" with the track condition etc.
I believe it was Mr Peters who made some claim that the noise of the crowd etc would rival any race day anywhere in the world... hmmm, I wasn't there but the atmosphere from the tv might have rivaled Kempton on a Wednesday night (
)
Go Lions!

totally agree with englander re the commentator. He must be the most irritating voice ever heard on the airwaves and his style of commentary is nothing short than a joke. He should listen to the UK callers and learn from them.

have to agree.i watched lions thrashing aussies, reruns of that 70s show. even tho i played exotics in kzn and jhb.the time between races in kzn is 2 long, the track was apalling and the results were only favouring the bookies who once again cleaned up in kzn and jhb.all our major racemeetings have thrown up upset results and yet the punters keep on coming back for more and more(reminds one of the saying keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, lol)well iv had enough of racing and will rather now wait for premier league to start to punt football and in the meantime play online poker where im a winner day in and day out.i will now stop punting racing and i wont even watch 239 anymore because i finally realise i cant win on the horses.only the bookies win and on our big days they really clean up and make a killing.good luck to those punters who continue to fund this sport by punting day in and day out.

Sheldon Peters has to be the worst there is from our lot.Coupled with Cecils 'it is the' shit it made for a poor show. Then over the hill we had Julie dressed and nowhere to go and Rod looking bored as ever. You can't blame the mate you know because she's an earful at her worst. The cracks appeared early with the breakfast show.I mean how those platters were thrust into our face showed a lack of class from GC.Everything just seems to get worse with each year.

Why Ben
That father/ son combo is the best we have.
Name me one in SA at the moment that would even come close.
Any one else's voice for the July will not be the same.

In my opinion Sheldon is one of the most dedicated guys. He calls races and does both pre and post race interviews. Show me which commentator does that. I can listen to him all day instead of Mr Andrew Bon. Why doesn't anybody complain about Andrew Bon as he does not add any value to the punter but gets an invite to all Big meetings across the country.
BTW, I get the feeling that some clanners are just jealous of the success of the July. The other provinces can try but will not get close. Look at the attendance figures, pools...3.5 m pick pa, 2m jackpot 1, 1.4m jackpot2, 7.5 m quartet for the main race!!!!

Absolutely baffled!!!
I had a lot of respect for those above who have commented negatively about Sheldon..... BUT NOW.... I'd rather reserve my comments because I have learnt never to argue with IDIOTS....
GAME OVER.
SHELDON DOES AN AWESOME JOB

I never said anything critical regarding his dedication bud, or his content for that matter,

I did say exactly that though, thanks for backing me up lol
- He was on from 8am or whatever giving his selections and then throughout the day. I can't help it, the guy's voice aggravates the hell out of me and naturally, when you are on that much, it can get a little repetitive.

IMO Sheldon is an excellent commentator and has to be a few leagues above Ian Bartlett, who must without doubt be the worst commentator to ever call at Royal Ascot, You can't even hear the horses names in the final furlong of a big race Bartlett commentary and it emphasises how much the legendary Peter O'Sullevan is missed.

The SABC coverage of the July was phenomenal. There was the fashion extravaganza, interviews with celebrities etc.
Princess Charlene of Monaco also attended this years July.
