why can their be no court action after yesterday?
11 years 6 months ago
so it look like some one do the huge boo boo in cape town yesterday and now punter have to carry the burden. to me is either the trainer or the jockey club who is the blame. so the thousands are lost is simple be cause some one is either being the crook or some one is be use less at there job. i under stand if you are the owner you can no take the jockey club to court but if you are the punter and you prove the gross negligence ( i google these! ) then why not you can sue?
is just the question but i feel to often the jockey club fuck it up for punter and no one pay

I think the negative would be that after the "all clear" bets are settled, it could work both ways where the fav could have won.
It has happened in the past where champions have been disqualified after the all clear and betting markets have been settled and only the owners stake and result posted have been changed
Ps u not getting your money back

Not sure if any action would succeed but in this case there is NEGLIGENCE at best on the part of the NHRA - They have been mandated to run the sport within rules that they themselves have written. I hope someone with deep pockets takes them on for failing in their duties and for ......BRINGING THE INTEGRITY OF RACING INTO DISREPUTE by allowing this major transgression to occur.

I don't think any winning punter should be penalized as they took the OFFICIAL form guide to be correct

If we go back in time,the government wanted to take over the old jockey club as they felt that the sport should be controlled by an independent body,which was greeted by total refusal by the major owners and jockey club directors.What we now have is a NHRA which is controlled basically by all the large breeders and owners but costs Gold Circle and Phumelela R40 million per year and they still are not on top of their game.The tax generated from racing in this country is massive but most is spend on dividends to Phumelela shareholders and Gold Circle who prop up the breeding industry in KZN to the tune of R5 million per year or more,for the last 25 years which means KZN has given R125 million of punters tax to the breeders over for the last 25 years and we still only breed bread and butter horses.We can generate as much tax in this country for hospitals,roads,houses as Hong Kong but the funds are all diluted by our beloved government.The tax generated from bookmaking last year was over 220 million of which the operators got 102 million the rest went to the various provinces.Maybe we should tell our president what the yield is and he can the tax away to build himself a palace in Umhlanga!!!

One other point is that its about time that the stipes should be either fired or face court action when the poor punter has to lose his money because of either incompetence or malpractice.We need to be seen to be clean,clean clean and appoint only people who we can be proud of.Jock Sproule was the best stipe this country has ever seen,his only fault was his favour of Muis Roberts,but he took no prisoners.I remember the one day at Greyville he said to H.Ramlugan if you ride like that i think you should go get a job as a waiter on the beachfront.He only said it to try and instill some discipline into him.

@whitehouse:
',the government wanted to take over the old jockey club as they felt that the sport should be controlled by an independent body'
Where did you get that info from?
BTW: When I was on the Gambling Board, it was my suggestion that the then Jockey Club be set up as an independent Horseracing Board (similar to the US and Australian models).
It was shot down by a board member who was close to Jabu Molekethi (the man knew nothing about horseracing and hijacked the Horseracing sub-committee as chairman and even over-ruled our objection to corporatisation).
The member was also on the HR sub-committee which jettisoned the preferred candidate for the position of Dep. CEO (an Indian with 2 or 3 degrees who was not 'the right shade of black!') for a politically connected black with a degree in Agriculture.
