You win some and you lose some. It happens with every team

We could argue till the cows come home about which team has benefitted the most over the years before DRS (remember Daryll Hair :
); from my point of view, anything that could lead to more 'correct' decisions, should be the way to go - the rest of the world is utilising DRS - so why does India not - and why as the host country should we abide by their preference and not ours - what if they insisted on pitches with less bounce and speed - would be have accommodated them on that as well?
I know SA cricket need the money that the Indian tour brings into the country, but I certainly wish we were in a position to say 'stuff you, you can stay at home', after they manipulated us into shortening the original tour schedule
Already looking forward to the Aussie tour (tu)

It will take me a while to type my explanation. Time permitting, I will explain some of the reasons after the days racing

Why only 1 test team against it? Use it for run outs, LBW's,height and catches. Any technology that helps get the right decision is good. If it takes away 80% of the bad decisions it is still a huge plus. The way Kallis was batting, we would probably not have come off the bit to win yesterday. All recognised sports(or most that I know) are using it and India should be made to accept it or don't play tests. The 2nd top rated side in the world tells the top and home side what it can use or not?:S The ICC should enforce it and maybe after yesterdays decision, some pressure will be put on them. I certainly hope so.

It should be a mandatory call by the ICC - make it part of the game rules and equipment. Agra there is NO valid argument against it.
I too believe we should tell India to take a hike except that is not financially very clever

Unfortunately finances matter, and the BCCI are flexing their monetary muscles and behaving like beach bullies. Seeing Lorgat and the SA cricket board grin and crawl to them while they kicked sand into their faces was just nauseating. But the ICC wouldn't stand up to them then and they're unlikely to do so over DRS either.
On a different subject, Philander has displaced Steyn at the top of the ICC Test bowlers log. I don't know how many years Steyn has been there, but it has been a long time. Anybody know? And who did Steyn displace?

Vernon Philander, the South Africa fast bowler, has displaced his team-mate Dale Steyn at the top of the ICC Test bowlers' rankings. Philander moved to the top after a fine showing in Johannesburg, bringing to an end Steyn's 186-match run at No. 1 - the second most by any bowler after Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan, whom Steyn overtook to the top in July 2009.
Philander, who picked up a four-for against India in the first innings and then three in the second, said that being part of a quality squad had put him at an advantage. "It has been a great couple of years for our squad. What has been the most pleasing has been the all-round contribution from everyone in the squad, that has been the main reason for our success," he said. "Needless to say, it is always easier to be at the top of your game and successful when you are part of a winning team."
In the batting rankings, West Indies' Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who hit a century and a half-century in the three-Test series against New Zealand to finish with 256 runs at 64.00, moved up two places to No. 3. Ross Taylor, who topped the run-scoring charts in the series having hit a century in each of the three Tests, also moved up two spots to a career-best No. 4.

So it was Murali that Steyn overtook ... a true great that one, and a very nice man too.
Philander has been amazing, a real find for the Proteas. I'm beginning to wonder if he won't be the allrounder we've been hoping for once Kallis stashes his cricket bat at the back of the cupboard.
Not in the same mold of course - Kallis was a batsman who could bowl, Philander is a bowler who can bat. But still, like King Kallis, he's double value.

Ballie the one day game has spawned plenty of "experts" who are clueless about proper cricket. 16 in 3 overs a tough ask when u can put fielders anywhere and can bowl down leg, especially with two of the worst batsman in world cricket following you! You obviously understand that but it was quite clear that the people in the crowd throwing their hands in the air in dismay were products of the pyjama game where 16 in 3 is a cake walk and I am predicting the anti-Smith cluless brigade are going to be hard to fob off in the next few days, altho he is likely to shut them up as quickly as he usually does by winning the Durban test.
