Straw bedding R20 per bale
Shavings R45 per wool bag
Epol Gold Cup R220 per 40 kg
Rent R380 per box
Groom R800 per horse per month
Lucerne R70 per bale
Oathay R55 to R60 per bale
add hoove dressing, kit brushes saddlery etc
These are Cape Town costs
I believe the MINIMUM charge should be R5500
But do your sums for me as to R3500 allows a profit
Do you get a payment per runner as you stable offcourse?
If so How Much?

Yes Nic I have the same experiences but sometimes I told the trainer the horse is going to win or backed it even if trainer think it has no chance, once bought horse for R1250 named Friston,on a sale Clyde Basel held, his first one, send the horse to Bloem, when he ran his first race for me and also my first race as a owner.
phoned the trainer nite before race, he said he has 3 runners of the 3 and mine the worst but anyway we can not beat a horse from C. Laird , to cut long story short My horse won and I picked up R25 000 which was at the time a tudy sum
then horse could not win a race again, saw ad of Paul Lafferty and send the horse to him and one day at Scottsville the unthinkable happened
Friston wa a Argosy x Firle which made him half brother to Firle Beacon
1800m draw 15 soft going, Rocky Agrella up he jumps go to the front, coming into straight leads by 3l thought he is going to hit brick wall but no doesn't stop win going away by 1 and a half lenghts
paid R145 on tote for a win had R100 on, has got tape where Paul apologize on air to me that he didn't think the horse could do it.
bought filly Crystal's Pride for R8000 on sale trained by Clouadagh Shaw, leaves it with her, she phones says horse is getting run over 1200 running against 8/10 shot of D Payne, Crystal Pride ridden by R Singh, draw against the paint, jumps and go start to finish pays R34 on tote only has R500 win on
lots more stories like this

unless there is something wrong with your horse I think it sees the vet too much if you are spending R500-R600 per month (i hope you don't own in partnership and own outright )- what is being done to it? Or is that just an average price (When I still owned there were many months when I got no vet bills but when injured or AHS then billed appropriately)

I am not looking to start an argument BUT someone needs to get to Bill Humans stables urgently....NO WAY can horses be fed on R3500 a month...something is wrong, either the bedding is being grown there, the staff not being paid statutory wage, the assistant trainer no getting a wage, something just does NOT add up....at a minimum it needs to be R5000 but really towards R6k is realistic

Bignic
a human being should be earning R1000 a week imvho
so that accounts for R8000 a month
leaves R5500 for 6 horses
someone/thing is hungry
