Think how easy it would be for a Curley type to do a betting coup,do aus bookies take the open bet on tote dividends ?

What if a big punter had a few bets running ? With done aus bookie or bucket shop ?

There's another way to look at it, for the benefit of the R20 punter. All those who were on Hell's Kitchen collected R18.4, instead of the R8.0 it was paying before the big bet was struck.

Swings and roundabouts, which is exactly how a tote works.

Quite right, the pool jumped up by almost R90,000 at the close, the bulk of which was on Mandolin Rain.

The best horse doesn't always win the race.

This has often been asked and it is not sensible to play any ATC via a tote system where your success is just increasing the number of winning tickets and reducing your payout and if your trainer does I would not trust him to train my horse?

playing on the tote is all about timing.....if i wanna have 10k win on a horse on the tote...i will put it 10 minutes before the event....assume the horse is 4/1...when my bet is put on...my horse shortens to R1.60 a win....now in the 10 minutes leading up to the race...people start to see "value" on their other selections and are put off backing my horse...at the jump...after all the other bets were put in the pool..my horse invariably goes out to 5-6 rands a win.......but if i put that 10 at the death...i get 2.20 a win...i know of a lot of people who back the tote...but at a certain time

The question was regards ATC bets, I would also suggest not that clever to punt 10 grand on a tote rather than take a fixed price, might be ok on the July or Met but not on a maiden plate in Ngong
Lol
