The dangers of racing on a perfectly prepared track have been well documented and we have seen some horrific accidents, (Simone Montgomerie's untimely death springs to mind) added to this punters have a hard time finding winners when racing on a fair and well prepared track why should both jocks and punters have to settle for anything less?? the solution is simple sort the track out before scheduling a meeting there and until such a time race elsewhere...The fact that the blame is now being leveled at the riders for the meeting being abandoned would be laughable if it was not so ridiculous,in fact the operator should, imo, be held accountable for loss of earnings , if the jocks wanted to boycott the meeting to "make a statement" as is being insinuated by GC then the simple solution would have been for them to not accept rides at Greyville and the meeting would not have gone ahead, why go through the motions of coming racing in the knowledge that they will risk injury for one race and then refuse to ride??
I for one cannot wait for the source of the "hearsay" collusion to be made public as Im sure the jocks have a right to know who their accuser/s are and a libel suit that will no doubt follow should be interesting to say the least...
The truth is there for all to see racing will go ahead if the track is up to standard as has been the case with all Clairwood and Scottsville meetings of late, present an unsuitable track and you will have the same result as you did on Friday.

Australian racing operators get fined a king's ransom for not delivering a raceable track.

The race meeting on the 7th went ahead after much debate and if it was in fact worse than the meeting in question then it should not have gone ahead either,as for the statement that it was concluded without a hitch??? R174,000 pick 6 and a R800 PA seems a fairly large "hitch" to me and shows that the punter was once again the victim, when one rides in a precarious situation human nature dictates that your safety becomes paramount and this will reflect on a lot of horses not being ridden with normal vigor and there will always be hesitation by any jock before taking a gap that would be no prob on a track in good nick, hence the results will inevitably be "shockers" but WTF the operators get their pound of flesh no matter what the results are, jocks and/or horses get hurt and punters get an unfair whipping they can always fall back on the most played out expression on the planet...thats racing.

Ridicoulous inquiry
You ring a plumber
He goves you a price
He arrives at your house
You refuse lock up the pit bulls
He refuses to enter your property bcause he deems it unsafe
No inquiry can be held.....
These guys are self employed
No ride no pay
Simple

I do not profess to know anything about riding a Horse but these Guys are supposed to be Professionals, both NHA & Jocks. As such what bothers me is how far apart they are wrt the safety aspect of the Track. During the afternoon Horses were galloped and the Track walked and with no futther Rain the Meeting gets abandoned.
As a (small) Punter I was disappointed but what about the Owners & Trainers who LOST out as well, I also feel for them as they were also innocent. IMO the action of the Jockeys should be taken seriously an independant Inquiry should be held without delay to clear the air.
With this debacle and the rain in Gauteng I am quickly being weaned from TT.

There was no premeditation that's nonsense I spoke to my Jock on the way to the races and we were discussing our runners chances I think gold circle needs to realize there are a lot of jocks not sitting in the pound seats and need to ride to earn. Why prior to this meeting had they already changed this Friday from greyville to clairwood? By making this a public spat does the image of racing no good at the end of the day the horse is the major concern and the jocks are not only concerned for themselves but the horse. If the track is not right and gold circle concede that why race and risk the unwanted bad publicity.

I don't think GC would have asked for a full NHRA inquiry for nothing and without some sort of evidence. If it comes back completely exonerating the jockeys then they would look a bit silly. Certainly from what I have heard there are some very conflicting stories. There are jockeys who rode in the 1st that were happy to ride on. Well that's what they told their trainers.:S

Another meeting lost and will be surprised if anything gets done! Just fingers being pointed. Durban racing has become pathetic and the laughing stock of SA Racing, it has deproved so much over the last couple of years it's a joke. And the jockeys are not the reason for the slump in standards. I blame the operators. Just my opinion.

lots of people making statements if the jockeys are entitlled to feel that it was dangerous
have any of you ever ridden in a race?
horses do not see the same way as humans Shadows are a terrible problem Horses jump them or
duck if the shadow is wide.
The stripes on the grass would be similar to shadows
Hawkins etc walked the course Try galloping at 45km A bit different
Wait until you find out the the grass course is to tight for a field of say 12!
Come back Clairwood all is forgiven
