So Jack is it really the authorities fault for not paying HK a cut ?

Surely HK get paid for the pictures ? Is it because phum want to charge for the pictures and are refusing to give HK more?

They could not have had better timing either......this morning's fair includes 2 Group 1 races that could have been part of a nice Jackpot and one of the races is the Hong Kong BMW Derby $HK16 000 000.stakes .....give these guys a shooting range and they come back with bullets in their feet....:S

Since Hong Kong racing is the best-run in the world (IMO,) I'm going to assume that the HKJC is fighting the good fight here, on behalf of the poor SA punter, who has suffered much due to TT's total incompetence.

I think HKJC have found out that only the bookies are getting the international feed now, and not the home-based punter, therefore they decided to pull the plug on SA.

If that is the case, then we can only hope that the other international feeds follow suit in short order. Perhaps that will force TT to make some sort of decision, because up until now they have just been blundering about in the dark.

Sadly I think that we will never know the absolute truth as Phumelela lack transparency and never take blame for their blunders so we can speculate until the cows come home. I really liked Hong Kong and also Macau racing as the online info and racecards are in a class of their own.... the info is streamed to finger tips and although our local pools are small and subject to manipulation I was highly profitable at these venues.....sadder days ahead I'm afraid....these guys with all their bad attitude have put our racing into a dive and all the panic in the world is not going to pull them out to fly straight.....this venue is lost forever as they have committed to their solution and we suffer the consequences.....:(

I always looked forward to the spectacle of Hong Kong and Singapore racing, one of the highlights of the week for me on TT, and the only time that I didn't have the audio on mute.

It's sad to think you may be right, Muhtiman, about the HK venue being lost forever. What's next, no more Singapore racing either?

.....no Singapore is tied up with reciprocal agreement and they get our feeds to bet on too.....it would be very difficult to f@ck it up....but who knows with this bunch.......It is Dubai that they should worry about.....no betting jurisdiction finding out picture been packaged and sold to bookie shops.....TT has an out in that they could have these selected international venues on DSTV but they loosing that too....they now need a decoder to be available to at least owners for free, then partly subsidised for punters and charge to bookies. Here is the problem cannot send pictures of non bookie betting jurisdiction to bookies....2nd decoder....a cost saving exercise becoming a financial nightmare

Follow the money...who is making money from the sale of the decoders ??...that will provide a (partial) answer to why the decision was made...

The bookmakers paid across to the respective Gambling boards a total of R204 million rand of betting tax of which R102 million was given to Gold Circle and Phumelela towards stakes. That tax was generated on local and overseas racing and therefore any amount due to the overseas racecourses that put on the show were due their share of that tax.A little bird says that tax was not paid over and thats why the overseas racecourses are demanding the 3%.Another point is that most bookmakers pay the six percent on open bets for the punter who prefers the bookmaker and so the operator get an extra 3% of any winning bet struck by the punter with a bookmaker at no cost to the Tote. The bookmaker takes the risk, using his staff ,stationery etc. and the Tote gets a dividend for no work.Better service,no vouchers, cleaner premises and a friendly helpful staff member!!
