MDK Jock banned for 6 months...
11 years 2 months ago
Cosgrave has been banned for 6 months for his ride in Dubai the other week, basically for teamwork...
The stewards, who took no action against De Kock or Soumillon, said in a statement: "The particulars of the charge being that when riding Anaerobio in Race 8 the Jebel Hatta (Group1) (1,800 metres) at Meydan on 8 March 2014, passing the 600 metres until approaching the 400 metres jockey Cosgrave looked back to his inside on at least three occasions and at the turn into the home straight he intentionally allowed his mount to shift out approximately three horses thereby allowing stablemate Vercingetorix a clear inside run."

A suspension is in order but to give a man 6 months is extreme and does not fit the offence..
Give everything but up!

Bad bad decision by the Stewards....................commentator fuelled the fire by his comments.
Surely the best horse won on the day, or would they have preferred an unlucky boxed in runner-up as there was no false rail.:S
CLOWNS!!!

The ERA Stewards today concluded the inquiry into the riding of Jockey Patrick Cosgrave (ANAEROBIO (ARG)) from the 600 metres to on straightening in Race 8 the Jebel Hatta (Group1) (1800 metres) at Meydan on 8 March 2014.
This was the second Stewards hearing into this matter and today further evidence was taken from Jockey Patrick Cosgrave, Jockey Christophe Soumillon (VERCINGETORIX (SAF)) and Mr. Mike de Kock the trainer of both ANAEROBIO (ARG) and VERCINGETORIX (SAF). Jockey Christophe Soumillon, who is riding in France, gave evidence via telephone link-up.
Jockey Patrick Cosgrave was found guilty to a charge of improper riding pursuant to ERA 69 (i).
The particulars of the charge being that when riding ANAEROBIO (ARG) in Race 8 the Jebel Hatta (Group1) (1800 metres) at Meydan on 8 March 2014, passing the 600 metres until approaching the 400 metres Jockey Cosgrave looked back to his inside on at least 3 occasions and at the turn into the home straight he intentionally allowed his mount to shift out approximately three horses thereby allowing stablemate VERCINGETORIX (SAF) a clear inside run.
In considering penalty the Stewards were cognizant of the following:
• The seriousness of the charge
• The blatant breach of Rule 69 (i) in relation to improper riding
• The detrimental image to racing as a result of this matter
• The Jebel Hatta was a Group 1 race with prize money of $300,000 (US).
• Jockey Cosgrave’s personal circumstances
Jockey Patrick Cosgrave was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months.
Under the provisions of ERA 99 (i) this penalty has been back dated to commence on 17 March 2014 and will expire at midnight 17 September 2014.
There was no evidence to implicate either Jockey C Soumillon or Trainer Mr. Mike de Kock in relation to Jockey Cosgrave’s charge and therefore no action was taken against those persons.

Good on the Stewards for enforcing the rules which they have....the thing is the intergrity of racing gets questioned for something blatant as this...
good on them for sending out the message that every horse entered is to racing and not fix...in RSA this would have gone with unoticed...
