Mr H, I am not rising to that bait either. Tired of this argument. I only know that Anton and Mdk agree with me. If Variety Club did not have the incredible ability that he has, you could have put Anton and Joa up at the same time and be trained by Mike, Joey and Vincent O'Brien together and he would not have won.:D

Pirates, ask Anton when you see him down there at Clairwood. Apologise to me afterwards. Think of it this way, Usain Bolt could lie in bed for 2 weeks on bread and water and you, Rowdy and myself could have the best trainers and food in the world and he will still beat us over any distance even if we ran in relays!:D The main factor in any athlete is ability. Without it you can do nothing. I cannot understand why it is so difficult for some people to work it out!:S

So you actually believe that when jockeys start riding those that end up making it big only do so because they are lucky enough to have ridden for top stables? Remember Strydom started in PE Moreira in Brazil etc - You make your own luck in life love and everything else including racing - The notion that the only profession on the planet that relies only on luck is training horses is naive. How can it be that trainer A and trainer B both go to the sales with a budget of 1 bar and after three year trainer B consistently has more success than trainer A. I will never ever be convinced otherwise - like in any other aspect of life the cream rises to the top - How many trainers have had a single GR 1 winner(purely ability of the animal) while others have had multiple Graded winners with similar stock and at the same sales. Your whole argument goes against nature as there is always a leader of the pack- You believe that Marcus adds a few lengths to a horse now why should it be that a trainer that spends way more time than a jockey with said horse can not do the same.

Give me VC to train and I wouldn't know what end to feed him

There was a national hunt owner about 10 years ago that took his horse away from a trainer and gave to a friend , the horse went from a champ to a chump in months

Without the horse having the ability you can do what you want, send it to whoever you want and put any jockey in the world on and you will still have a slow horse! Say what you want but that is the truth.

So by your logic Shea Shea should have won because he was clearly the best horse in the race and the ride makes no difference.......

Your logic is so flawed that the only reason it holds water is because you are actually a lekker oke....fact is without the right trainer and jockey even the best horses in the world would not feature and weaker horses would stay off the radar.

The analogy in football is " its good to win even when we play poor"

MDK wins 100's of races a year with horses that are less than average...he does so because he has ability.....

Easy, no one has said that Anton or Mike or Joa are not great trainers or jockeys but my stand is that without the horse having ability it does not matter who trains or rides it. I am a big fan of all of them but I could give Mike a few horses or Anton a few rides that I promise you they will not run a place with. Getting rid of 1 unraced tomorrow as it does not matter what they do it will not ever run a place unless the field cuts up to 3 runners. Without doubt the biggest factor is the horses ability and the trainer and jockey have a far smaller input on how that horse will run. Anyone who argues that the trainer or jockey have more input than the horse should give up racing now as they know F-all!
