if mike de kock didnt have a massive (almost 100% input) hand in the preparation of Variety club he wouldnt run his best ever race yesterday....
fact, he is the master and a legend...just watch how his yards boooom when he spent time and his personal touch with that certain yard ....newmarket, dubai , randjies or natal....he does get more big wins rout of his horses.....
just a simple example....how many trainers did the oppenheimers ever had?????? all of them got the same type of stock from the farm.....and some trainers never made an impact but who was the one winning every big race when he got a chance....only the legend Mike de kock.
enough said.
i would love to rather spend a week with mike in his stables that 2 years with some other trainers

Does it have to be either/or? How about a bit of both?
Some horses have what it takes and some don't. Some trainers/jockeys can improve any horse but they can't win with a horse that basically isn't fast enough or that has no will and heart to race.
Mike de Kock has certainly trained/retrained some horses that wouldn't perform for anyone else, but he has also had his failures. I don't know the man but I imagine he is realistic about this, otherwise he would never be able to go on training for, how many years is it now?

three factors - the athlete's natural ability, the skill in training the athlete gets to bring it on, and the company it is up against on the day (and track/weather/tactics on the day).

Re: Re: Meydan Saturday 29/3/14

Once again my last post on this subject.
Maybe we all on a different page but I am saying it is 95+% the horse.(Anton said 97+%!). Maybe looking at this years F1 will help understand what I am saying. If I said last year that Daniel Ricardo would be out performing at least 3 world champions including Seb Vettel, you would have said I was mad. He is playing with them and why? Not hard to work out. Besides being the best drivers in the world with the best technicians and mechanics, the cars just are not good enough. It is even worse with horses as you can not just take a part out and replace it. Once again I want to reiterate that I am a huge fan of what Mike and Anton have done but to win the big races you have to have the material to work with. Mr H, Curlins Cousin was different as I owned 90% of him in the end and as he was bred by family and wanted to try prove the mare could have winners so we were desperate to win or run places but he was just not good enough and also went wrong. It was only my pocket that got hurt.
