DON"T THROW THAT TICKET JUST YET

Yorker back in July picture
(3 June 2014)
David Thiselton
Geoff Woodruff said that it looked at this stage that his big horse Yorker may be staying in the country for the season and running in the Vodacom Durban July. He reported the strapping, ever improving four-year-old Jet Master gelding to be “doing nicely” before his run in Saturday’s Gr 1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge over 1600m at Clairwood.
However, he added, “If Capetown Noir bring his “A” game on Saturday, he will be very hard to beat. We got a bit lucky to beat him in the Horse Chestnut. Beach Beauty is also a nice runner. I think Yorker might be leaning towards being better over 2000m now. He is also coming off the back of a hard campaign and I would like him peaking for the July.”
It has now been confirmed that members of a shipment of horses that will travel from South Africa to Dubai via Mauritius have to be in quarantine by June 8, which would rule them out of the July. Yorker’s inclusion on that shipment has been up in the air for a long time, but listening to Woodruff it would appear that the connections are now favouring him staying here, at least for the time being.

Put up a really good run yesterday, if you watch the replay again, Marcus doesn't use the whip once, just shows him the whip at about the 200, excellent July prep imo. Looks the sort who must be covered for as long as possible, will be interesting to see which one Marcus opts for in the July, if Yorker gets the extra 200, this will be a huge runner.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

The horse to beat of the elder challenge - Big horse so should be able to carry the weight - Woody must be nappy as LTK will also go well now he's seen the course

I think it's fair to say he prefers a track with a longer run in, but having said that, he has made the expected improvement a year on. I would have loved to see him have a run at Greyville proir to the July, a la LTK.

Mr H, agree, definitely the one to carry the flag for the older brigade, and Woody must be quietly optimist of being in the winner's enclosure with one of his charges. Was El Picha his last success in the race?

I'm not sure if it was the course but rather the two extra stones he carried - I think the snip has change him dramatically

For me, there are two things against Yorker, firstly he is going to give weight to everything - now he is a top horse but I doubt if he can give a lot of weight away - especially to the 3 yr olds; secondly I think the short straight is against him as well.

I haven't checked the possible weights - would Marcus be able to make the weight on Rake's Chestnut (and Shea on Louis) - IF Yorker runs?
