I agree with Rob, Jack and Craig. A combo of those three processes or thought patterns will be very good for racing.
We DO need a bottom rating or lower benchmark. This again makes programming less complex. And yes, when we rate correctly in the first place (dont kill or "stop" the young horses), we then dont just drop horses for a few bad runs.
One way to help, here, is to do away with gross merit ratings and then only publish nett ratings. Apply the wfa scale, as it stands, month by month, onto same nett rating. Again, though, we must rate correctly and not on a computerised slide rule basis. Sure, there will be formlines that are proven to be false. Thats where Rob's point about an application to a committee makes so much sense.
At present the appeal process is a waste of time. I dont know of any appeal which was not dismissed. And to discourage appeals, it appears, the deposit of R3250 is always forfeit, with the standard response that the appeal was "unwarranted". If you dont believe me, read Derek Brugman's satement on the subject in S.Post, on the Yorker decision....
Basically guys, we all have an opportunity to make submissions on handicapping and i think that we should. Whilst i fully agree with Jack, for instance, i also know that we rely totally on turnover. So, to go back, completely, to the system that Jack and I obviously prefer (and also obviously, grew up on), might knock us all too heavily. But, a balance between that and the current with a lot of Rob's system and controls thrown in, we will be much better off because we will serve punters and owners better.

As I raised these issues the question was obviously aimed at me, so, as you insist on an answer.......
The answer is no but you knew that already!!!!
If you don't get that there are components that need to fit together to create a holistic solution, then replying was pointless, and,I was trying to avoid being rude!

lg after running 2nd to Negev ila bela got a 5 pound penalty and deez says she cannot win next time out?she ran in the betting world oaks which is a race at wfa so what does her 5 pound penalty have to do with the weight she got for running in the oaks?also she got a 5 pound penalty for running 2nd in a mile so her rating was achieved over a mile lets see how she fares over the same distance next time and not over 2500m which was 900m more for the distance she got her penalty for....

My point was regarding freedom of opinion and speech and the fact that I have an enquiry. Sorry that I didn't simplify that enough for you, Pirates.

let me simplify something for you in that freedom of opinion and speech is fine but I have heard your comments regarding the handicapper and you have overstepped the line plus there are means and ways of taking up your issues without trying to discredit or make an absolute fool of them in the public eye.its not what you say its how you say it

Now you defend them, but by attacking me. Where's your substance, mister bitter at Gold Circle boy ? I wrote a piece with my views. If you have something to debate, then do so. If not, shut up and piss off.
And if you really want to believe that I am the only one who has had a go at handicappers, then say no more, as lots are laughing at you....
And , please clever boy, show the facts, show where I am out of line. What are you ? PW Botha reincarnated ? Not allowed to criticise ? No opinion allowed ? ( used PW here, cause u probably don't know who Idi was and Bob is.)

whatever happens you will never satisfy the total horse population but I firmly believe that at least 80 percent of the population is satisfied and this could increase if the program was relooked at..what really makes me laugh is that the majority of trainers and owners and punters do not know exactly how the merit rating system works but they complain about it and mr goosen mentioned the other day that 3 of his trainer mates were laughing at devin little when his filly featherfoot won....Louis as for lots laughing at me im glad for them:)-D
