First timer rule in Jackpot
10 years 2 months ago
Now I know this is probably a daft question, but I seem to remember that there was a rule change on this some time ago, in that if a first timer wins a race in the Jackpot, that only that first timer (and not the first 'raced' horse home) qualifies. Yes/No/Maybe ?
I went looking for clarification on tabonline and found a 'Betting Made Easy' booklet - unfortunately that booklet states that 'All information correct as at 12 November 2008 - See official Race Card to confirm information'.
So off I went to look in the 'Official Race Card' - no information regarding this that I could find
So where is this published - if a 'veteran' like myself can't find this information, what chance has a newbie got ?

If a 1st timer wins in jpt...only that number applies. No highest placed raced horse story

Big change to rules of Jackpot
By root on November 1, 2010 · Other News
THE coupling of stable companions and the first-timer rule will not apply to TAB’s Jackpot bet on South African races from this Monday 1 November.
November 1, 2010
This important rule change brings the Jackpot on South African racing in line with TAB’s Jackpot on international races for which neither the coupling nor first-timer rules apply.
“The chief reason for axing the couplings and first-timer rule from the Jackpot on South African racing was that many people felt the bet had gone stale and needed to be revitalised. Doing away with couplings and the first-timer rule will obviously make the Jackpot more difficult to win, which in turn should rekindle interest in the bet,” said Phumelela’s General Manager Marketing and Communications Robert Garner. “In addition the Jackpot rules for local and international races will now be the same.”
Phumelela Betting Executive Vee Moodley added that under the current rules the Jackpot was merely an abbreviated version of the Pick 6. “The amendments to the Jackpot rules from 1 November give the bet its own unique identity going forward,” he said.
TAB customers need to note that as a result of the coupling rule falling away, should any horse selected for the Jackpot be scratched it will be replaced by the tote favourite.
The coupling of stable companions and the first-timer rule will continue to apply to TAB Pick 6 bets.

....last updated !2/11/2008 :woohoo: ................an industry continually blaming everybody except themselves for their problems...................lol
The thing that I would bet on is that most of these necessary functions are not allocated to managers/employees ............that is how this kind of situation occurs ........it doesn't get done because it isn't actually anybody's job!!!!
Identifying functions ,allocating them and monitoring that they are performed efficiently is a very basic of management.
I am not a fan of "theoretical" consultants but the racing industry is managing itself so badly, in the detail, that it probably would benefit!

But surely any newbie would expect that the winner of any leg in the J/P would be the qualifying number ,1st timer or not, without having to be told

Luckily not something to be worried about as all indications are that there are no newbies.
So no problem at all along with all the other no problems.

Titch the point is simple... Info like that needs to be available for all to see not for newbies or more experienced punters to guess.
How can something not updated for years be justified ?
