Read this article by Karl Madiema, plenty to ponder:

Was a pretty slow race last year, but i never thought of Futura as a doubtful stayer until he showed the amazing turn of foot in the mile race last year

Don't think they will be setting any records this year either

Not sure abou that. MJ will probably have 3 runners in the race. Might sacrifice one to set a good pace.

That would be Legal Eagle and The Conglomerate and ......? Not sure if either of those will set a pace ........also just heard Mike de Kock saying in an interview with Andrew Bon that he did not want Pine Princess in front in the Woolavington, so bar Helderbeg Blue, I can't see any pace setters......if I were the Snaiths, I'd make sure that Dynamic sets the ideal pace for Futura...........of course Mr Adams might have something to say about that

Maybe Wyllie Hall will try and repeat his front running tactics of last year ?

Let me say my peace.....
It is well known that a horse with a good turn of foot generally needs a decent to good pace to show his ideal turn.
Doesn't it say something for the horse (Futura) that he is so consistently able to close into bad fractions when ideally he would like a solid gallop to run into?
I think we are focusing on the wrong things with this horse. He is so laid back he appears comatose. He switches off and turns it on. If the pace is on he will win easier, not a shadow of a doubt about it.
Yes, does LE concern me with his awesome record and his handicap mark, yes does the 60kg's bother me? I don't care about any of these factors as records are meant to be broken IF you have the correct horse to do it. Futura is an other worldly horse in my opinion and I have seen a few.
The more reasons everyone comes up with why he cannot win, he more I like him,. Please bookies, make him 5, 6, 7/1 because you believe he cannot beat the 3 year olds at the weights. I will be smiling when he proves you wrong

I don't think there will be a mad pace so I if its average or moderate I don't think it will hamper Futuras chances. A very fast pace might find him out but that's unlikely.
I just prefer the horses that can run handy and stay on in this race because they are less likely to have a bad luck story and run on too late.

Interesting article... Here's my post from Rising Sun Gold challenge day that I have just copied..
_______________________________________________________________________
I'm not very big into race times but they have to be considered. This just stands out for me..
The day Futura won the queens plate, in a MR 78, St tropes did the course 1 seconds faster than, that's about 6 lengths. The day he won the met ertijaal did the course 1.5 seconds faster. That's about 8-9 lengths. The prep run at Greyville 3 weeks ago times were over 1.5 seconds slower than a maiden field that same day, so collateral can't really be considered on that run as it was basically a gallop at this level.
With last years Met fields vs earlier years where Great horses have won:
Igugu in 2012 did it in 123.75.
River Jerez in 122.82
Dancers daughter and pocket power 124.06
Futura did it in 125.38.
Today I would like to see No Worries set a true pace, Legislate and Ice Machine will be sitting close up and then see how Futura quickens in the run to the line..
He's no doubt a star, but I don't think he is a 120 MR, In my opinion!

Point taken. But remember the word sacrifice. And also CVN would set Fench Navy free for his mate MJ. I know it sounds a bit cloak and dagger. But I reckon THEY are going all out for a LE win. ST's only doubt Greyville's short straight, I believe.

Chris I don't think Wylie set the pace last year, was that slow a gallop he was able to steal a lead running from home.( just from memory )

It's more likely that a horse like halve the deficit can be sacrificed as the pacemaker for the benefit of CVN's other horse.
