Well in an industry that relies on honesty - Where you are the controlling body you can change the rules - I'm sure you could accelerate results. It's like Alcohol tests for drunken driving - If you use the state labs it can take years for a result to return but if you use private Labs then a few days. We have Ondersterpoort here so surely they could test if they do not already. If you insist on a foreign lab, pay extra to accelerate the findings on positives and if it comes back positive again(You give the option to the guilty person to use another local lab or a foreign one) then the guilty party PAYS for that test on top of the fine or suspension. It is just bureaucratic feet dragging. It is ridiculous to think that in a Country that has a very good record concerning medical innovation we need to get second opinions from third parties instead of getting that opinion locally. The specimens also are placed at greater risks of contamination when leaving the country for NO good reason. Imagine if every drunken driver that tested over had to have his bloods sent to the UK or USA for testing - Everybody in SA would drive drunk!!

Recently apparently there were 18 positives flagged? How many has anyone heard about until Those numbers were requested and the reply published? Well ,not me for sure.
I think that the lack of openness leads to both the rumours ,and the perception that the authorities willingness to keep things low profile ,means some sort of "cover up", or at least a reluctance to act in the publics interest.

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 12 October 2015, Trainer D M Kannemeyer was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.4 in that he was the Trainer of the horse SOLAR STAR from which a urine specimen was taken after it had participated in and won the 8th race at Scottsville on 26 April 2015. The specimen disclosed, upon analysis, the presence of Ractopamine, a prohibited substance.

So why did the Nhra make a public statement at the time saying the rumours were false ?

I have been racing for 40 plus years and never have I seen an epidemic of positives like we are currently seeing. You have to be giving the Jockey Club credit for catching these cheats but really, when will the all important warning off of the first cheat take place and become a precedent for further cheating? This is very much the case of the dog chasing the car, catching it, and then being clueless as what to do with the vehicle. It is my opinion that until the cheats and their chemical agent vets start being criminally prosecuted things will remain as they are currently.
As for the trainer named as hiding horses and owners changing trainers en route to Turffontein from the Vaal, I am told that the trainers legal council has tied the useless Jockey club in knots with their own rules and that he will get off this charge totally. Give that man Manny Witz a huge Bells.

To state the obvious - Imagine the mainstream press get hold of this story- The trainer of the current July winner has been involved in chemical manipulation of one of his horses. Bad indeed for Racing considering another July trainer has also had a positive lately. Kudos to the NHRA for stepping up their game and if I was a chemical trainer I'd be worried. I am certain that the NHRA has a Duty to report certain of these cases to the SAP as I'm sure there could be breaches of the Medicines Control Act and also I'm certain Fraud could might also be proved in certain cases. I would also hope any Vets involved get reported to their respective boards. I wonder if the are doing this?

......steady Mr H.....no medical acts are being broken.....most suppliments can be brought in under the various agricultural acts in place that are meant for the importation of feed suppliments and as we know no one is going to prosicute for these acts being contravened....
I wrote to the Jockey Club back in 2003 when I came across unregistered and uncontroled products in the market at the time and never even received an acknowlegement or a reply
.....so it has been a free for all for any one wanting to bring in whatever....including this Nitrotrain which is used globally.....legally and illegally....the NHRA needs to pull finger...
and finger these muliple positives and put an end to it before it causes a major scandal...

Medical acts are being broken if a scheduled drug is in your possession without you being prescribed them - The testosterone case in Kim is an example is it not? You cannot go into a chemist and ask for testosterone without a script. If the vet has prescribed it then where is the proof?
