Banned Soumillon free to ride on World Cup card

UAE: Christophe Soumillon has narrowly avoided a ban covering the Dubai World Cup meeting after pleading guilty to attempting to weigh out with a non-approved safety vest at Meydan’s Super Saturday fixture.

The jockey’s three race-meeting suspension covers Jebel Ali, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi between March 18-20, meaning he is free to ride on the world’s richest card on March 26.

Soumillon is not permitted to ride in any racing jurisdiction on these dates and will therefore miss the BMW Hong Kong Derby, a race he won Viva Pataca in 2006, on March 20.

The stewards took into account the rider had offended under this rule in the past and also fined him AED 5000 (£950).

The ban capped a disappointing day for Soumillon after Dariyan and Mubtaahij, two of his strongest rides for World Cup night, suffered defeats at Meydan.

Will have to make giant strides since its last preps as both Frosted and Keen Ice as beaten Mubtaahij when they met in the American Classic Races, namely the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. Then you have the last horse not to win the Triple Crown, California Chrome after he finished 4th in the Belmont!!!!
