Karel, i missed the debate but know the only real reason barrier trials will be torpedoed would be the same reason cite a couple of years ago - the cost of adding extra 'races'. HOw would you suggest these trials be incorporated - morning gallops or before or after a racemeeting or did you mean that runners in any of the races that are new/from a layoff be discluded from the betting?

Don,

No barrier trials.
Only proper races, where first timers run outside of the betting.
Barrier trials within a race, in other words.
Simple, cheap.
All the rules apply.

hmm yes that certainly eliminates the 'too costly' factor and would instantaneously boost the customer confidence factor. What happened to SAF's system of 'time trials' by the way?

hmm yes that would certainly eliminate the 'too costly' factor simultaneously boosting the customer confidence factor and allow racing to gain more market. I hope someone of power is reading this blog!!! By the way, whatever happened to SAF's system of 'time trials'?

sorry i lost the forum for a while - had to type it twice. Sectional timing system - did SAF not have that put in after the barrier trial system of a few years back?

Mr. Miedema with respect what you have forgotten i must still learn.
The stake cheques does it also apply. Meaning the unrace horse doesnt get a stake cheque.
If only one to three horses in the race ran before we only punt on them.
I say barrier trails can take place at the centre where the horse is trained.
Yes you would argue that the trainers who train privately havent got this facility.
They do bring their horses to the starting stalls don't they.
They do get a large amount for transporting their horses to race days.
With respect thats why you see Erasmus with so much runners at the Vaal on racedays.
Yes the Turfontein, Vaal trainers will have an advantage because the horses get use to the tracks and surounds.

sectional timing at Kenilworth - the system broke and they never replaced it because they were in trouble at the time and didn't have the money.
Sectional timing is the biggest 'innovation' they could ever give racing.
It's what will bring the brains back into racing.

Bravo,

First timers would get prize money, of course.
Just no betting.
