WOW this is some thread!
I think in future Neil Andrews should post the topic on ABC, so that he has the full background to enable him to ask all the correct questions, must say we have had a wealth of inputs in the last couple of days.
this is exactly what the Forum was designed for, GREAT!

MM talking about whims of the lot - just where does the NHA stand on all of this - why have they not done anything to pickup the state of affairs yet? or for that matter any of the other big guns - Gold Circle, Phumelela - where are they?

If you replace the last 5 words of MM's post with the words "those with incestuous attitudes towards administrating racing" I'm in 100% agreement. Good post mate.

MM do you think barrier trials will do the job? at least as a startup fix and perhaps later more indepth systems? what is your take on time trials and what do you think of Karel M's idea of barrier trials within a race...

Barrier trials ( what I thought the discussion would be all about), sectional timing, enthusiastic media participation and dissemination and all suchlike instruments should be to give the punter (big or small) the opportunity to make a more informed choice when betting, Betting, which you must agree is the life blood of the industry.
Absence of such limits the income of shareholders in the industry, whether it be owners, punters or other.
The question is not whether these instruments of information is needed, but rather who should foot the bill.
Clearly IMVHO, the racing operators should not be hiding here.
The logistics, costs and other reasons for not having these instruments are only smokescreens.
It was very clear from the show that the people who can make a positive contribution in this regard, ie, the R.A., NHRA and Phumelela are not interested.
S.A racing will remain years behind the rest while this attitude prevails.

Thanks Muhtiman. Interesting reading from a decade ago.
I don't see most of the posters of that time posting or participating here anymore.
Were they banned or just lost interest ?

.....some were banned....some lost interest....some still farting against thunder.....
.....I remember the TV show from which this thread gets the name....thought it was an apt title for what has happened until now......interesting from that show was certain parties mooting that sectional timing would "bring new people into the game"......well as it turns out the only new person it is bringing into the game.....is the Irish Pimpernel that is supplying the system that has never been used or tested any where in the world....now it is clear that the party that was calling for a system way back then.....is the very person directly involved with invoicing the costs of a system to a division of the operator..........You Be The Judge
