How do they know what buyers were willing to bid at Sale ?
Many auctions have initial offers prior to sale and then buyers can better their offers by bidding higher. Initial first buyer can then also decide if he would like to better his offer during bid process if someone bids more

Whats it got to do with you ?

If I had the money to make offers before the Sale I would have done so myself

Money in the bank is better than horses possibly not being sold in the ring ?

I wouldnt attend the sale now because no doubt the meat in this parcel of horses has been bought and you left with the drek...An auction is held whereby you find out the true market price of an item so really its a poor showing on behalf of the sales company to let this happen...This is unprecedented in my years in the game if you want to do deals then dont have an auction in the first place and waste buyers time.Mr azzie has first hand knowledge of these horses of coursce he is going to try keep the best for himself you cant blame him.

But Pirates, when it comes to all of this there is only one certainty, and that is ALL of this is a very inexact science. All these "big" yards came good from "cheap' horses they got when they were still modest. Once they become so expert they become bureau de change, that is yards that spend millions to win thousands. Is that not true? The more they know, the more they can spend, the more I hope they like the pressure and the disappointment. Not true?

So go buy the left overs, no one to bid against. Buy an honest horse, have some fun. The ONLY reason not to sell off the catalog early is that you piss off buyers. All of it is a strategy to sell and sellers have every right to optimize that path for themselves as best they can, they don't owe anyone anything, it's buyer beware. It's reality, uncut.

Pirates for the last few years the trend at the MDK dispersal sale has been to withdraw the "crowd pullers", sometimes a few minutes before the start of the sale. Go through the previous Michael Holmes results, its an obvious trend to spot.

It is clear that Van Vuuren doesn't do much in the conventional way ;) and that is obviously his prerogative, but normally most sellers would want to achieve as close to market value as possible.
I don't know that anybody has a formula for establishing the market value of a racehorse,in training, other than what a "willing buyer" bids in an auction(in a dispersal sale, willing seller price is "at best")
I have been to auctions where a pre-sale offer is declared and used as the opening bid,and that would have seemed to be the prudent way.(normally....lol)

I see on Garrick's list lot 24 has not been withdrawn. Fantastic, how I hope even more buyers do not pitch up.
