you really believe that owners especially the ones i highlighted above buy horses for returns?they do it for other reasons of which until you actually have had the ownership experience you will sadly never understand..if you so concerned about returns why do you gamble on horses considering that 95 percent of punters lose?backing a winner gives punters a lot of joy but when your own horse wins you can multiply that experience of punting a winner by 100 times ...its an adrenalin rush that cannot be matched and you can understand the phrase of being on cloud nine...im sure owners on here will tell you the same thing

Pirates pissing money away to get an adrenalin rush is the perfect definition of folly to me. Tax write-offs play a far greater role than adrenalin rushes particularly when you consider the absence of named gentlemen at 99.9% of their "investments" runs.

Its their money, they can do with it what they want. It doesn't change the fact that it is a foolish and costly venture.

Talk about missing the point!

If anyone thinks owning a horse is about making a profit, get rid of the yacht, the mistress, expensive wine and your sports cars.

And getting rid of dud race horses, last years sports car, the a leaky yacht or the bitch mistress proves nothing.

Pissing away money would be the point, preferably while getting pissed on the expensive wine.

Is it not true that ownership is like handicapping ....we don't all have the same attitude.
I had colours, and shares for 25 years and then it dawned on me....

Imagine going to a dog sale and have somebody choose a dog for you. You pay for it but they take it home ,enjoy it ,admire it ,bond with it, train it and when its ready they enter it into a dog show.
If it features, and gets a Rosette, you can get your photo taken with it (in return for bearing all its costs)and then THEY take it home with them, for more celebration and bonding.
If/when you go and visit your dog it barely recognises you and does not see you as its owner/ master/friend or care whether you ever come back!!!
Sounds crazy hey ,but substitute horse for dog and suddenly its a HIGH ....LOL

All the smart business men had choices They could have played golf, gone fishing for tunny,
owned a yacht,a string of mistresses,etc etc
They chose racehorses for a reason
Buy one and get the best feeling when your colours get home for the first time
The feeling?
Ask Sransky what he felt like when the ball went thru the posts in the World Cup Final
Believe me you can gat a better feeling
Buy a horse

If you can't spot the mug at a poker table it's because you're sitting in his chair.

I doubt whether Beck Jaffee or Oppenheimer wasted as much money on nags. Buying horses from other owners for ridiculous sums after one win? Amsterdam Oomph and how many others. Either a silly man or handled good and proper!!
