Fraud in the Tote

Do phumelela investigate the large cancellations of bets just before the off that changes the payouts substantially?? This is an ongoing occurence. Large bets are placed on a horse to bring the payout down, then cancel just before they jump.

They need to investigate which tote is doing these cancellations and put an end to it.

Eg. Wilde Style. Was showing 0.80 as they were about to jump. Then jumps to 2.5 a place. For a 4/10 to win shot.

Surprising that nothing has been done all this time.

But Aloft came down to 0.60 a place and only 2 places available. About R2500 places was on Wylde Style.

Whatever the case, I just hope cancellations are investigated... Seen this too many times to be coincidental.

Its all "swings and roundabouts". The 6/10 winning favourite paid 15/10 for a place. I suppose it depends whether you are a "swing" or ...

....a bit off the subject but still about the tote and misinformation....they put up an incorrect result for the 6th at Borrowdale.....and then rectified it but made an absolute abortion with the payouts with multiple results....glitch...gremlin or is someone fiddling....has been rectified at the all clear....but WTF are they doing....

I remember years ago Empress club was involved in a manipulation of tote places. The horse was something like 4/10 and won easily paying R1-30 a win. The catch was her place payout, due to a large bet cancelled at the jump she returned something like R5-00 a place.

Facts are inaccurate due to a fading memory but the gist of the story is sound

I remember that OTA.That is when they brought in the rule that any bets over R499 had to cleared by the tote manager. You get 20 people invoved all put 499 places on a horse then a minute before the race 18 people cancel their bets and 2 keep them. It's manipulating the system but I'm not sure if it is illegal.

I remember that well. I was on the stand at Scottsville looking at the tote board and suddenly the places flashed up. Was a stampede to the Windows to get on just before the off. I'm not sure what happened but I think I got around 4.10 a place. Can't really recall as it was in my youth, but remember there being an outcry from people who didn't get on.

You right. It was at Scotsville when it won the South African Fillies Guineas. It paid R5.80 a place and it was because of Tote Manipulation. The only other time that Empress Club paid a significant amount is when it beat Marie Galante and Taban in a sprint over 1000m at Durbanville. It paid around R6 for a win.
