Another big owner gone sour?

I have to slightly disagree with Oscar.

Owning in SA has its challenges but compared to the UK for example its a no brainer.

Our horse ran at Sedgefield, its a 200mile round trip. Cost of £1 per mile transport. Stabling and training ranges from £35 to £48 per day depending on if the horse is in full training or being let down for a few weeks. 1st class tickets by train to Sedgefield from London £150 each (I'm too fat to fit in economy) 2 day declarations mean we have to wait till the last minute to make arrangements.

Now in SA, we just bought 2 at the yearling sales. ALL INCLUSIVE I've sold shares in the UK for £3200 for minimum 2 years. Thats ownership and training costs. for 1/12th of each horse. An overnight flight to Capetown £600

I do agree though that owning in France is far better than SA but compared to the UK its better in SA.

Any way you slice it, ownership numbers have been decimated.

Having 52 syndicates involving 100000 members and having 80 horses in training does not solve the problem.

The problem as I see it is the mega owners have up until now softened the blow and are hiding the catastrophe about to happen. Ask any trainer who doesnt have Jooste, V Niekerk, Werners, Moodley, Reysell(sic), Takkie Town, et al in their yard how they are doing compared to 10 years ago and you will get the same answer every time.

I personally feel the bigger picture is not just related to horse racing.

Whether you are in banking, manufacturing, retail etc

Agree with all the above plus list doesn't end there. As an ex-owner I can confirm there are zero benefits from the Racing Clubs.

Oscar the photos are the only expense owners don't mind paying for

Even the photos and those cheap frames are overpriced in my opinion.
