Why are we not getting the sectional times???
7 years 9 months ago
PGL and GC have been sectional timing horses in races for more than a year.
It is about time that we get the times of the horses.
It is not right that insiders know the times of the horses and distribute them to others. How Larry Wainstein can get the times and then give them to his brother and friends is mind boggling.
There are no controls in place. Some are making an unfair fortune.
All I ask is for PGL,GC and the NHRA to make a statement keeping us informed and ensuring us that information is not being used or distributed to anyone who can make money out of it.

this issue is an indictment of the operators and the ra and i have seen and heard it first hand via the company who was tasked to do it for gold circle although he was the second company to do it for them as the first did a walk..its a wonderful product this company has and they will be starting a website soon with all the sectional times and how far each horse covered in a race etc but unfortunately they have only access to natal racing as the other 7 tracks are under the ra banner which have tried various indian and british companies but still the public havent seen a thing ..why the ra who is an owners association has the responsibilty of sectional timing i am still unable to get the answer as its a tool for punters trainers and jockeys so like the operator in natal gold circle took it upon themselves to introduce it so should have phumelela done it not the ra..Unfortunately due to financial constraints gc cant continue and around 2 bar was written off in last years trading statement ...The biggest tragedy is the local company who does gold circle has now had its world class product been accepted by other racing nations so they are focusing on that and this is while racing burns locally..Its simple if the other 7 racecourses came on board then sectional timing and all the other wonderful products that i have seen first hand would not only become available to local punters BUT THE REST OF THE WORLD WHO BETS ON OUR PRODUCT AND LETS FACE IT THIS INCOME IS WHAT KEEPS OUR LOCAL INDUSTRY GOING WOULD ALSO SEE IT AND THIS ENHANCED AND MORE IMPROVED PRODUCT WOULD DEFINITLY INCREASE TURNOVER ..IS IT NOT TIME THAT WE DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE INDUSTRY AND NOT WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR OWN AGENDAS?i will come in for plenty flak regarding this post but at the end of the day im hoping it will be worth it as having seen this wonderful product first hand its the right thing to do

We were told that it had been shelved for now. Cost a fortune and didn't work that well. Subsequently they started putting the transponders back into the saddle cloths but they are so big and heavy and bouncing right behind the saddle that some trainers took them out.

Re: Why are we not getting the sectional times???
7 years 9 months agoHow do they do it in the rest of the world? Or are we to believe that South Africa is so backwards technologically that we cannot implement a system that is proven to work in many other jurisdictions. Or perhaps it is our climate or high cost of data or maybe the truth is more simple - THEY DON"T WANT TO DO IT (because they don't want to spend capital on improving a product that they wish they could shelve)Craig Eudey wrote: We were told that it had been shelved for now. Craig, have you been getting sectional timing of your horses in races?
If so have you found it to be a help?

Re: Why are we not getting the sectional times???
7 years 9 months ago - 7 years 9 months agohave just confirmed the one i saw which will be available in november weighs 110 grams and the one currently used weighs 180grams ...What i forgot to mention is that this device is a wonderful aid for jockeys and trainers who can have the real times available so they can assist in the training and riding of horses ..In most first world countries especially america most training is done on the clock and if you read secretariats book its explained in detail ...pace makes a race and the jocks from the states are well known for their judgement of pace ..Another point is that the adjusted time per square metre in racing publications is incorrect because they are dividing the time by the distance of the race WHEREBY IF YOU USE THE TIME THAT THIS DEVICE GIVES YOU AND ALSO HOW FAR THE HORSE RAN BECAUSE MOST IF NOT ALL RUN SOME 20 TO 40 METRES FURTHER THAN THE ACTUAL ADVERTISED DISTANCE OF THE RACE THEN YOU WILL HAVE THE CORRECT ADJUSTED TIME PER METRE ...EG 1040M DIVIED BY TIME THE HORSE RAN IT IN AND NOT THE 1000M ...THIS definitly occurs around the turnCraig Eudey wrote: Pirates, the latest one I had was about the size of a 250g block of butter. Pirate, excuse my ignorance how is this device activated at the beginning of a race and stopped at exactly the finishing line?

Somebody's making it look like a problem. These mini timing chips have been used in cycling and running for years. Not much bigger than half your little finger
