Craig I appreciate your comments based on what the breeder told you. I got a runner Matthew Lips running today he has been of for nearly six months on and off and if he dont perform he will come to my place to retire so I am looking after horses I race . In cases where you are a part owner it is not that easy and I think in the case with Carribean Bay thats the case Regards

BIGNIC, that is great to hear. I with many others have been worried about the horses up there and where they end up after racing for a long time. I want to reiterate that it is a small minority that that is giving the real horse lovers a general bad name. One of the bad things we found was some are sold to a person who keeps them on his farm in dreadful conditions and then loads them up and takes and sells them to an abattoir. People at Mauritzfontein went and saw the conditions and were appalled. We had a filly that we were told was given away to stud( could never get conformation on that though) and suspect she went on one of these runs. Not all horses can be placed and often if they have problems such as lameness, temperament etc, it is far kinder to get a vet to put them down rather than find them on the back of a old truck off to the abattoir or worse as we found in Southern Natal/Eastern Cape sold for a few R1000 to bush racing down there. Bob has seen the photos of the horses condition when Clodagh Shaw bought and fetched them at an exorbitant price just to get them back to veterinary care. According to the bush owners there is a ready supply of horses from Kimberley from certain trainers. This can be verified by talking to Clodagh if anyone wants. As I said earlier, this is not all the trainers there by any means and they should not be tarred by the same brush as these despicable people. They love their horses the others just see a few rand in their pockets. It is a sorry situation.

Name the certain trainers that are doing this in Kimberley. I would like to know...and of course make my own judgements

A racehorse who cost 240,000gns has been described as looking like a "bag of bones who was waiting to die" by a volunteer from a charity who found the mare, along with ten other horses, locked in an abandoned yard in County Cork.
War Celeste, a daughter of War Front who attracted the six-figure sales price when bought by the China Horse Club as a yearling, had been in training with David Wachman but never raced and was sold to be a broodmare in 2015.
It is unclear how War Celeste ended up at the farm in Cork, where dogs and ponies were also found starving and surrounded by excrement last year.

Good to see people being named and not just posters saying this and that without actually putting names to the accusations they write about.
There is always someone threatening with legal action but if you got proof then you have nothing to worry about.

Important-
1)I have never attended a Bush Meeting.
2)We cannot group all amateur racing under the same umbrella as Bush Racing.
My points
1)There are hideously cruel races being held in the Western Cape . Horses are stolen just to race on the weekend. Yes, they flog them mercilessly and use wire bits etc and they run on gravel roads, often breaking down. This was shown on Carte Blanche.
We all agree that these people are rubbish and must be jailed.
2)Then there is the Bray Derby. As far as I know, this is an Annual event in the Kalahari. I have often been invited to join some guys etc. This is a fun few days, where open fires and braai and Brandy etc are all part of the festivities.
NHRA observe the event and racing is well organized on a good, level track. There is a Vet on course and races are run to a set of rules. NHRA are obviously there and are scanning horses and checking if retirement docs are in order etc. I have read mo reports of cruelty from the Bray Derby before.
Now, by grouping the events in 1 and 2 above under the same umbrella, is a bit far fetched and unfair, imho.
Again if there are other amateur meetings going on, I dont know of them. Excepting for the amateur meetings held at Scottsville, which Racing staff assist with.
All are not cruel or bad.

Louis you may be right they not all the same. However the question is still not answered! What meeting was this that was raided and how come these horses that were mentioned were there. It's got very quiet ...like nobody wants to talk.?? And once again I ask the question do owners in those areas know that their horses are even at these meetings or are they in the dark like the rest of the punters that support the legal meetings and keep this game alive.

Hi Louis, you get the 2/3 basic types I am told as like you I haven't been myself. You get the Bray derby, Dundee July and Scottsville amateur meetings you could call them which gave sponsors including government, vets,Horse care units, farriers, etc. Then you get the Randfontein, Ellisrus, Vanzylrus etc venues which I gather the NHRA went to and found these still registered horses and then you get the real bush racing as you mentioned in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape etc. These are the bad places as you said. This is where Tanaburs, Raw Courage and Just Jawja were rescued. This is the real problem where horses are sold onto for a couple of grand. They told Clodagh that they can get plenty from certain trainers. I will try get some photos. Bob has seen them and saw how bad they looked.

Miss T this was a regular meeting, well regulated, sure the name was in the press release.
Definitely wouldn’t be in the “ bush racing” category that Louis mentions
But in the Amateur status..
Track looks better than Greyville imo
