Dave, I think its probably China trying to "come clean" about their real no's of infections & fatalities. They are under huge pressure from the rest of the world for their attempted cover up of the real facts & their refusal to acknowledge the dangers eg person to person transmission, highly contagious. etc.
Sadly, neither China nor the WHO alerted any other countries to the seriousness of the pandemic until it was too late.

China also stopped travel from Wuhan into other parts of China, but allowed international travel from Wuhan. They also silenced the whistleblowers. That's criminal.

RIP. I wonder how many from 1966 are left?

Record breaking trainer Mark Johnston has COVID 19

If a leading trainer in SA caught the virus, Racing would need to close down

Bob...around 2010 when we had the Soccer World Cup in S.A. there was an outbreak of the H1N1 Swine Flu overseas. I think I was the only one running around in Durban looking for a vaccine as there was no panic anywhere and I had the mistaken notion that all the visiting supporters were going to bring the virus into the country and infect us too!
Fast forward to 10 years later and it's unbelievable how things have changed.
Anyway to go back to your post, the trainers at the Vaal would probably remember owner/trainer Andre Kirsten .The news was he passed away from the Swine Flu in late 2009.
Racing did continue as normal probably because the Swine Flu was not as contagious as this Covid19?.

Some good news to report from China. So my one son in China receives a gift hamper of fruit and nuts from the Chinese govt probably because, he thinks, to apologise for any racial discrimination. :-)

This reminds me of Chris de Burgh’s Spanish Train. Please don’t post it.
