Disturbing post ito the 'second wave' ..... seems the world is still mostly in the dark re this virus - who knows - and so imo the government is correct to 'hope for the best, but plan for the worst' - however one also has to take note of the figures from Australia where racing is continuing - so one has to ask the question 'why not in SA?'

Ito local racing, I certainly do not know all the facts (as most discussions are seemingly taking place 'behind the scenes' - part of the problem imo) but I think the most important issue here is to try and look after the horses - to do that racing needs to start again ASAP to get the 'wheel turning' again - and I also think (as a temporary measure) that it may be an idea to pool all stakes earned in a sort of 'racing solidarity fund' - to be administered by representatives of all stake holders - this fund to ensure firstly that cost of 'keeping' is covered from the fund - sure some will still be in the same boat - but at least some others will benefit; the idea should be 'survival' as opposed to 'making a profit' ....

Question Sent from a voyeur ( well actually Mark Sham )

Morning ..You know I'm not a Moodley fan ..
AM I wrong in saying it should be a Phum CEO applying to government for permission to race or Moodley..

Phum hold the Gambling licence

Where is CEO in these trying times?

At least Moodley is trying!

I am sure my thoughts are well documented via my daily post on the 35 day lockdown thread, plus my covid daily update.

I am again stealing the post from Sly as its so apt its scary.

"The operation was a success but the patient died"

We have to move in industry to keep alive after the virus.

Racing is a good example via other racing nation's.

The simple question is : have the racing authorities actually submitting plans to Govt to show its feasible to carry on racing behind closed doors or does it suit them to just sit it out due to financial restraints??

Again just a bit transparency is fine, have no problem either way as long as the reply has been calculated and an acceptable feedback.

Ps you also know my feelings on closing of bottle stores for needy and privileged.
Why give SA citizens more hardship in what are already difficult times?

How much longer will it be extended. When I see on the news about nearly 500 taxis have permits to transport people to east London for the weekend. Then they say that tomorrow the roads will be busy as everyone will come back from eastern cape from their Easter holiday. Can I also go away? I’m battling day by day locked up in a small place and then I still have to see that.

SA horse racing needs leadership. There are many owners who have great leadership skills in their respective industries who are never consulted as regards decisions made as regards racing’s plans and future. As an owner of a lot of horses I call for consultation as regards the leadership requirements of horse racing in SA going forwards.
Let’s find a Mr Cuomo going forwards please, this is a significant industry which seems to be extremely unsure of itself and anxious as regards its future. That is not an option, consult the talent pool of owners to get to a position of confidence, by opening up to us the facts as well as transparency of what has put racing into this position prior to COVID 19.

We all have a good idea what has happened but let’s put it on the table so we can plan as an industry without personal agendas the way forward and make sure that this never happens again.

Would have to say GC have been proactive with government for a couple of months and wish them well on behalf of owners and trainers in KZN .
