it will also be remembered for how many people enriched themselves (those in the know, pharmaceutical firms etc)
that corruption does not get killed by a virus
why politicians should not be in charge of anything this important
and medical doctors should be in charge of the WHO

Since when does the world care so much about saving lives? Millions starve to death annually, while the world spends $Trillions on arms.
Tough luck if you need life saving surgery and you cannot afford it.
So too with dialysis.
"Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety". Benjamin Franklin

On 22 April the same day the NHA launched its application for exemption to government, the consolidated gaming industry forum represented by CASA, BASA, LPMSA, SABA, GOBA and WCBA made representations to the National and All Gambling Boards and importantly DTI, which included the opening of betting shops. GOBA is the Gauteng Bookmakers Association and includes Betting World and Supabets both owned by Phumelela amongst its members. The Operators had agreed with the NHA that we must steer clear of in any way linking the reopening of racing to the reopening of betting shops as in the words of Vee Moodley we wld be "wasting ink" if we did. On Sunday 26 April the NHA requested the Operators to submit independent applications to government. Kenilworth Racing submitted theirs as did Phumelela through Patrick Davis their Racing Executive. As we had agreed that we wld NOT request that betting shops be opened knowing that under level 4 and with huge restrictions on public gatherings that this wld not pass muster Patrick specifically excluded this. It has subsequently transpired that Rob Scott the Betting Executive then in clandestine fashion submitted a 2nd application requesting the opening of 10 stores and which John Stuart and Scott have subsequently admitted to. The NHA has been advised that the net affect of this was the refusal of our application based solely on this point. The NHA has now written to Mr Mmaphaka Tau the DG of the NDMC (National Disaster Management Centre) wherein it is stated in bold that "we confirm that local betting shops will remain closed and only at-home coverage and online activity will be permitted."

But then again, there could be another side to the story.
I am on a fact finding mission on this one. Dont hold your breath, but there could well be a curved ball or two floating around. Maybe let's stall the crucifixion for now....
As usual, I will post when I can
make head or tail of it all..

This is a disaster but government could have determined that racing could continue without betting shops being open
