The sad reality is that Racing is sustained with the monies derived from betting into tote pools!!! I am sure that the prize money is derived from this source as well.

Yet yesterday the president said ALL retail can return?

I think Gaming would fall under the Entertainment sector which is not allowed - If they allow physical Lotto buying then I think betting shops should be allowed but having seen the lines of soccer bet players I doubt this could happen safely

Vaal lease will also be an interesting negotiation with new non Phumelela racing entity. wonder if they will be able to get out of lease on both sides?

I see on the Sahorseracing website they have added the program for the 1st and 7th June for Durban. Doesn't really mean much without confirmation from government.

The Vaal Racecourse is physically situated south of the Vaal river in an area that is known as Viljoensdrif which is actually in the Free State. The Vaal River is the Gauteng Free State border.

Viljoensdrif is a coal-mining village 8 km south of Vereeniging and part of the Fezile Dabi District Municipality in the Free State province of South Africa.

I guess just getting ready so if given the all-clear from Govt. racing can click the button to fire on the very first day. Good planning.

Well seemingly whatever this oke and his crew have put down on paper to try convince the ANC that racing should start is obviously not good enough as we not racing and haven't even been given a date when we can start.
But I do think when those clowns, who are now gone thankfully, underhandedly put in a claim for the totes to open with horse racing, might have influenced the ANC to think that racing is mainly about gambling. The very thing that we didn't want them to believe.

Will all South African racing employees be tested before racing can resume?

Every other sport on the planet that has returned are carrying out testing..

In the UK these tests cost roughly £50 each multiply this by the 100`s of race day staff and athletes... PS these tests are carried out twice weekly (Bundesliga 3 times a week)

The company that I work for has just spent 5 bar to get the entire workforce (2000 employees) plus all contractors tested. This includes multiples tests for some. I have had 2 negatives so farB). They have an arrangement with a private hospital @ R750 per test.
Submitting an application to govt is one thing, having a Project Restart is also very important.

Betting shops in the U.K. allowed to open as non essential retail

“ Betting shops in England could be back in business in time for Royal Ascot after prime minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that “non-essential” retailers can potentially reopen from June 15.

Previously, expectations were for betting shops to reopen no earlier than July 4, which is in phase three of the government’s unwinding of the lockdown, however betting shops appeared in a list of non-essential retail outlets published on Monday night”

I hear the Gambling boards are meeting today 😎

The bookmaking industry have as many staff as horse racing waiting to return and must not be denied their livelihoods imo
