The medical aid for the jockeys, does the three operators share the cost of all jockeys or each operator as jockeys assigned to them to cover? Some of them, even their dependants are covered.

Medical Aid is a huge expense. Surely if you are a professional, you must pay foryour own Medical Aid as you are not employed by anyone!!!

The Racing Operators (comprising of Cape Racing, 4Racing and Gold Circle) are pleased to report that following a productive conversation and dialogue with the Coastal Jockeys Association (CJA), the demand letter of the CJA dated March 24, 2023 has been withdrawn.

The horse has unfortunately bolted already....pardon the pun. Very disingenuous of them to bite the hand that feeds them. If i was keeping this sport afloat with my funds i would've packed up and go live on a Caribbean island sipping on cocktails and getting massages from island beauties. Just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth this.

Common sense prevails - similar to the State of Disaster being lifted and the hoo-hah about Escom deciding where it should publish their results

Not being privy to the facts, one or two sobering facts stand out for me -

1. The iteration that racing in this country is dependent on the goodwill of 3 individuals / families / organisations
2. Medical Aid ( and Life Assurance ?) contributions are somehow being paid (as per 'tradition') by someone who does not employ you - and despite that a generous offer (imo) being made to continue with the benefit (even at a lower scale)

I would guess that the author of the 'to whom it may concern' letter is now finding herself ? in the wilderness

It is clear that the "Sport of Kings" cannot sustain itself without the big 3 injecting the cash and understandingly the big 3 have become bigger than the game. When such a situation exists then the game eventually dies.Just my opinion.

"I explained that the Operators are inexplicably paying for medical insurance for jockeys, despite the jockeys NOT being employees of the Operators. The Operators do not even provide medical insurance to their own employees, so I was at a loss as to why the Operators provide medical insurance to jockeys, who are independent contractors and not employees.
I explained further that, to make it even worse, the Operators are even paying for insurance for jockey’s dependents for a vast number of jockeys(such as yourselves).
I pointed out that to make matters worse Operators are paying for an expensive plan for most jockeys and are even paying for Vitality for many
I explained that jockeys have ABUSED permanent disability policies by treating these policies as their “retirement fund”. This abuse has led to costs spinning out of control, and of great concern the jockeys now, as a group, becoming uninsurable. This has increased the Operators’ costs even further."

It is no wonder racing is in the dwang. How an earth has this scenario arisen?

I won't even comment on the other stuff; the stupidity!

Whoever is doing something that is beneficial to the game deserves credit even if its not monetary.

Worldsportsbetting has pumped in millions in all three provinces including the sponsorship of Capes biggest race but does not even get a mention....

Agreed WSB is the silent benefactor that must be included in all discussions. In all provinces.
Conveniently forgets to include WSB because of partnership with HWB.

Not exactly silent. Anybody who has any grip on this industry knows that they pledged 50 million rand to Gauteng racing ALONE in the last 2 weeks. Coupled with their enormous national sponsorships on an annual basis - if I'm not mistaken, April 29 in JHB and KZN May 6 and 13 are basically being carried by WSB in terms of sponsorship contributions, - the omission of acknowledgement of WSB as a huge proponent of rracing's ongoing survival is extremely unfortunate and short sighted.
