I do not know why Kotzen persists with Van Niekerk!!!
Why would Michelle Rix use him carrying 1.5kg over on Hier komdiebokkie?

I believe the same question should be posed to owners and punters as to why they persist with Kotzen's drivel, merely talking up his own book at the expense of punters.

I'll say it again - Any two year old that won the Golden Horseshoe at Greyville is not worthy of a win bet in a Grade 1 as a 3year old.

I agree with totally.

In fact, I would say that Cousin Casey was at best between 1400-1600m. On today's run from draw 1, with its 3rd run in the province I'm not sure how much better the July would be.

I'm not convinced by the Daily news today, as See it Again beat Dave the King, and a seemingly not seeing out the distance Charles Dickens. He is by far the best staying 3yr old for the July, however he will carry 57kgs.
I'm now leaning to the 4yr olds+ as if weights are low then it's a great advantage on handicapped terms as older horses could also carry 53 to 55 kgs. The draws will be intresting, a well weighted older horse drawn between 6-10 will be my preference over a heavily weighted 3yr old drawn 12-18

Can't weight for the draws. I also think Richard will ride either Pacaya (who has a turn of foot) or Pomp n Power who if his mind is right will demolish the July with a similar Met run.

In addition:
All of Son of Raj (better over further), Anfields Rocket (better over shorter), Jimmy Don (miler at best), Bless my stars (should skip the July as will finish in the backfield),

Can't see any of these in the top 6.

Regards

I have maintained from early in the season that the 3 yr-olds are not up to scratch - and I still stand by that statement - the issue is that there are not many quality older horses left - so maybe See It Again can make me eat my words

I think Rascallion will win it almost by default - and I have backed him again today after drifting a bit.

I feel a bit aggrieved - I backed Cinnamon Blush in the last - and had she won I probably would have won the Tote Competition - still got a piece of the trifecta, but too bloody stingy to take it 100% - if I had I would also have won the compo - anyway we live to fight another day

I think they made it clear before the race that Son of Raj was being given a pipe opener

The run to pick up from this race is that of shoemaker. Sat last and ran on to finish a 3.7 length 5th. Was sitting last for most of the race. At level weights here - but should get 4kgs from the likes of See it again and Cousin Casey (who is very disappointing).

The gelding seems to have done wonders for Shoemaker, as in Cape Town he finished way way behind the 3 year olds.

I wonder if he will get in though lol

Depending on which of the top 4 they decide to use as the line horse, Shoemaker ran 117-119.
The concern with this race is that River Romeo and Street Art ran 2 and 6 points respectively below him and thus improved from the high 80s to 115 and 109.
#20 on the log is Pacaya rated 110- it seems bizarre that he should get a run ahead of staying 3yos with ratings 115 and above.
