The peter explanation is plausible. After all the same thing happened to Aiden o brien with snowfall and mother earth which was only picked up after the race. So this happens in the best of families. Kudos again to the identifier for doing her job so well

It happens in the best of families.... read in SP how the great Herman Brown got a runner mixed up and it was Owner/Breeder Robin Scott who spotted the discrepancy with Jungle Class, the filly winning by 12 lengths on both occasions, first as the wrong identitied and then the correct one.

Very much doubt Mr Brown was doing a ringer.

No details as to what punishment was meted out for this mistake or was it swept under the carpet.

So here we have it again....stipes not aware of a seriously injured jock lying on the track and allow the race to continue..No plan in place for this kind of incident "Seriously "
Did no one notice that he hadn't moved off the track. How close did the runners come to running over Gabriel. The brave paramedic who stayed with him should get a medal
Jocks get heavy fines for more than 12 hits (sometimes its just 1 over )
Trainers get fined for being 1 day out with a flu vac...
Trainers get Heavy fines for Bringing Racing into Disrepute ...
Now who is getting fined or suspended for this debacle ...Surely the Head Stipe or Stipe in charge on raceday should have a plan in place ???
Or will it get swept under the huge NHA carpet again

Dangerous... All round... Something that has to be changed...
When the race circumvents the course more than once... They need special safety features...

Surely there is a hooter that goes off when this happens?

In America they have outriders on track with two way radio's that will try to wave the jockeys to stop and other additional means.

We seen plenty times when starting stalls all over the world cannot be moved off in time due to faults and the jockeys only manage to pull up when they notice it or try to go around it.

One of the reasons why there was a problem here that it was after the finishing line in the pull up area. Surely its the responsibility of the starter to sound the alarm as he is the closest to the incident. Had this occurred after the gates had opened and they could see the jockey still could not be moved the race will be certainly be called off.

Will the jockeys protest now, to have a guarantee that their lives will not be in danger? In any job you can have all the health and safety in place but you will still have incidents. From this incident, they will be able to introduce new measures. Well that what happens in other industries.

How cool is the dude in the shades with both hands in his pockets. He deserves a sponsored trip to Pamplona for the opening day festival.

The Sporting Post asked 4Racing and the National Horseracing Authority to respond.

While 4Racing have offered no response, NHA CEO Vee Moodley said that it is extremely easy to criticize the actions of the Regulator after the incident, and with the benefit of hindsight.

“Once Jockey Pieterse was dislodged from his mount past the winning post, the Stipendiary Board was in immediate contact with the NHA Chief Veterinary Surgeon and the Starting staff. They were given the ‘all clear’ to continue with their monitoring of the race as they had the incident and Jockey Pieterse within their line of sight and under control during constant and uninterrupted communication with the Stewards. As for the comments concerning the ‘pull-up area’ and personnel at risk, they are not wholly correct. Nobody was injured but for Jockey Pieterse and the transgressor of the incident was duly sanctioned,” he said.

Jaypeg (and I’ve worked out who you are) please tell me where I’ve ever put anything on ABC that wasn’t the full truth (no halves) .
I only stand up when there’s been a wrongdoing against this game we love wether it involves me or not.
I don’t throw my lines into murky waters and pull out a fishy story to tell.

Finally at peace Mr Jay August.
Thank you for all the fascinating historical inputs of early SA Racing and the champions that graced the turf in that golden era

RIP

P. S.
There are many in racing who will agree.... you were God's gift to Racing....in SA.
