Re: HOLLYWOODBETS DURBAN JULY GALLOPS
1 month 4 weeks agoImmediate Edge is a real dark horse imo, as we don't know how good he is; Olivia's Way I think the connections might have decided that they would rather staying in Gauteng (I have heard rumours of an entry into the Summer Cup) - but the way she runs, they might have thought Greyville might not suit herTigershark post=900037 userid=1816I agree Frodo, good value.
What am I missing with Immediate Edge? 7/1 and beat Olivia's Way when in receipt of 1.5kgs... what odds would Olivia's Way be in this field carrying 54.5kgs?
......MDK is looking for every advantage to try bag this....taking this horse down in the 11th hour gets more juice at sea level.... but these days those road trips are risky......has taken me 14hours in a violent truck strike and spent 4 hours outside little Switzerland forced onto an alternate route......then 10 hours on a return trip with an accident on van Reenen's....will make a final decision to have a wee stab on looks down to post....unsure

Although I am not on Immediate Edge I can see the reasoning....this is really the only unexposed horse....he has made massive improvement....look at where he runs in the Derby...look who finished ahead of him ....now they GELD him and he goes close to a horse that has now won 2 legs of that Gauteng series ....he was not even ready that day...then he rolls Olivia's way with ease ...she would have won the Oaks had they gone for that race....she also finished ahead of Spumante Dolce in the classic who then went on to run second behind 8 on 18 in the daily News....I will back Olivia's way every day to beat Spumante over 1800m plus...don't ignore this horse...last 5 winners carry under 54kg

Not wanting to start a bun fight, how is Immediate Edge unexposed? He has run 2450m, 8 on 18 has never gone beyond 2000m. Maybe i have the weights all wrong, but i feel Immediate Edge is the worst weighted horse in the race based on ratings. Even if you grant he is better than rated, bump him up as much as you want and he will still be under sufferance. On the current rating, Immediate Edge has to transform into Pegasus to win this.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

1 month 4 weeks ago - 1 month 4 weeks agoOn a line through Choisanaada, there is very little between Confederate and Immediate Edge (so on that IE should be rated about 118); it looks as though IE would be more suited to the July trip - but then again Confederate is at 25/1 while IE is trading at around 8s - which imo is no value whatsoeverAlthough I am not on Immediate Edge I can see the reasoning....this is really the only unexposed horse....he has made massive improvement....look at where he runs in the Derby...look who finished ahead of him ....now they GELD him and he goes close to a horse that has now won 2 legs of that Gauteng series ....he was not even ready that day...then he rolls Olivia's way with ease ...she would have won the Oaks had they gone for that race....she also finished ahead of Spumante Dolce in the classic who then went on to run second behind 8 on 18 in the daily News....I will back Olivia's way every day to beat Spumante over 1800m plus...don't ignore this horse...last 5 winners carry under 54kg

......ja no value at all....and still to make a possibly very long trip to the races....in his canter video he looked a bit wooley but the picture as not gr8.....the odds on race day should reflect his chances......

Rod...you missed it Bud...he ran the 2450m as a colt...was beaten many lengths by Olivia's Way....was Gelded and now she she can't go with him....I know you love 8 and I see that as the winner bit the horse that has improvement is Immediate because his body has been changed....I'm not even on this horse but to ignore him ....no....I'd rather have him than any of the other 3yr olds (barring 8 on 18)....as he is running here while his much vaunted stable mate that beat many of these others in the Daily News..Spumante...is not running here....

I'm not actually looking at value...I'm looking at the horse as one that can easily be in the first 4...I don't think Confederate stays that trip ..if you want to take a quartet and you banker 8 then why not rove this horse for the other 3 places....

Immediate Edge is relatively unexposed in that he has only run 6 times . 2 as a gelding. Do you remember the transformation Dave the King made as a gelding? I'm not for one minute suggesting he is going to improve by that magnitude but as I keep saying MDK is the only one who knows what that horses true ability is.
They wouldn't be running the horse if they didn't think it had a winning chance. And as for travelling the last two July winners raided from Joburg.
I just want to see Eight on Eighteen beat given the way the connections showed total disregard for the punter by not making public knowledge early enough that he was going to run.
I've seen shorter favourites ( Yard Arm 8-10 ) get rolled in this race so anyone who thinks this is a penalty kick cast your mind back to 2004 ..

On another note I thought Sulukwe looked really good this morning and I fancy him to run a place .

Danza, I was on course in 2004 wen the HOT POT....YARD ARM ran UNPLACED.
U COULD have heard a pin drop after that race.... there were Millions of loosing tickets all over the track, NO ONE collecting win, place or swingers..
That July result put quite a damper on the races to follow cause MILLIONS of Rands were Not returned to the public to REINVEST.. after the FAVOURITE RAN UNPLACED .

I backed Greys Inn that year as I had a dream number 10 won !
If you remember correctly Greys Inn actually didn't have a number on the saddle cloth rather the South African flag to mark 10 years of democracy if I'm not mistaken?
My good friend in Cape Town still reminds me of that story today !
I hear what you are saying about everyone losing , but it's a stark reminder that odds on shots do get rolled in the July. Tread carefully!!
Immediate Edge also happens to be 10 this year but alas I haven't had any dreams.... Yet.
