As a journalist first and then as an owner, I have always felt that the question of how a horse will perform should never be asked of an owner, because it puts him in an uncomfortable position. The owner, as a matter of good manners, should not be placed in the position of having to respond to this type of query.
As for a trainer, if he is interviewed for the public, he also is put in a difficult position, because he has allegience both to his owner AND to the public, as racing is a sporting event supported entirely by the public.
I think the proper question to a trainer that he must answer as honestly as possible regards the correct physical condition of the horse.
Once again, I don't think a trainer should be asked if he expects his horse to win.
By the way, based on what I have been told over the years, the most lucrative job in racing is not that of maitre d at the Turf Club, but that of bookie in the jocks' room.

My feeling is if you an owner first look at the form then find out if the horse has improved (unfortunately need to rely on the trainer) then decide if you wanna bet.
As an owner you can easy ask yr trainer not to pass on priviledged info and if he continues to do so then move on.
I have learnt to ask trainers how far off the winner he expects the horse to be cause that puts them under real pressure.

B.I., you are owner/nominee of/for many horses.
If you found one of your trainers consistently tipping your horses and that they are consistently backed, what would you do about it?

Bookies are parasites that suck the life blood out of racing.
