Tipping

I have a question: in a game in which information can mean the difference between winning and losing, why would any trainer or owner tip the public on one of their winners?

I think that anybody who expects the connections of a horse to give them reliable information is kidding themselves.
Of course, as is pointed out above, if an owner wants to give some information to a friend, that is one thing.
But for readers of this forum to expect good information from an owner or a trainer as to the prospects of his horse, I think this is naive.

The worst is the trainer tells you the horse gonna win ..you tell yr mates..they put their cash..the horse doesnt run a place..you get the usual excuses from trainer..you tell yr mates..they think you an arsehole and they all thankful they dont own horses.

having a bet on your horse and then divulging any "inside" information on the forum can surely not harm anyone??

I took Barry to mean the difference between winning and losing...to a gambler?
Having worked for a time with a bookmaker friend, I would have to agree with Barry about information from trainers, having seen the remarkable difference between what they say on the phone compared to what they say on tellytrack, both before and after a race.
And to Troubleshooter I would say I agree also that the info actually belongs to the guy who owns the horse and pays the fee for the training and takes all the risk. That is an inconvenient truth in the business of gambling though.

Oscar, I agree with you. If I had to survive on what trainers told me I would be out by now. Here is an example. Yesterday I have two runners in the same race, different trainers, Both trainers say they will win.
Result.....Last and third last.
3 weeks ago, I have 3 runners, for the same trainer. He tell me that two will sh1t in, but the 3rd one has no chance. Bad horse, that he entered in a stong field, to lower his MR. He will not find a place, and will not win again before his MR has dropped by plenty. Result.....the two winners are both unplaced and the plodder wins by 3 lengths, paying R 27-00 a win.
There may be trainers that know what they are doing, but unfortunatley they have not trained for me as yet, and I have had horses with many trainers. They are very clever after the race, but not before it. As far as I am concerned, they can keep their information, it is cheaper that way.

Can we look at the flip side of the coin here. Does the trainer have the right to inform the public that a horse is not ready to win?
So many times horses are entered into races for "prep runs". Public gets cained blindly following an under cooked horse. Is this fair?
