Tired Horse or Superman caught with pants down?
16 years 5 months ago
Anton relaxed for two strides on Gold On Gold in dying strides in Turffies 5th today.
Got beat a whisker in process.
3 months holiday to come ?
What do our resident experts think?

Morning Doggie, I am aware of this, read my earlier post below under the "sat at the big T" thread.
In my opinion Anton did make a "rare" mistake and dropped his arms a couple of strides before the line and then tried to recover, but just a bit late.
Its racing, and still a fan of Anton.

Whilst i don't wont to condone the ride I hope sanity will prevail and that a stern warning will suffice Anton is the ultimate professional and his own worst critic who,as a rule rides to the post and to see him pick up a suspension for this would imho be a travesty, anyone who backed him may well feel agrieved but there has been many occasions in the past and no doubt will be in the future that but for his riding we would have lost our money on horses that should not have won, (Jaypeg in Dubai is one of many that spring to mind) swings and roundabouts but with Anton there are FAR more ups than downs.

Morning Scotia, yep, I'm sure you knew the photo was taken after they had passed the post, but as the picture stands, without qualification, I think it could be mis-interpreted. Anyway, lets see what the stipes say (they at least have the benefit of slow-mo replay and hearing the jockey's point of view).
Regards, David

No problem David, lets be fair, it was a strange race and happens every so often when a horse looks home and hosed and the outcome changes drastically in the last few strides. The terms used are gubbed 1.01 boom (just some in-running terms).
It happens plenty over the jumps.
The bottom line is that whether it be Anton or a groom, the HRA have a job to do and have the replays/head on cameras and must be consistent.
Lets see what happens?
I would say that I thought it was well called by Nico whatever the outcome.

Rare MISTAKE from the most consistent Jock in the country - i'd let him ride any horse of mine - has got more horses to win that should have been beat than most, from the side view it does look like he eased up and then starts riding again with about 30m to the line - he should be found guilty for the sake of racing - i often watch Scotia's Jumps and am amazed at jocks pushing from the jump in 4800m races and not stopping until the line sometimes i'm shocked to see these battlers run into the places as they decide to run when you least expect it

If Anton got 3 months the real losers would be the owners tainers and punters, the man got beaten a sh/hd on a dead tired horse i can name a handful of jocks that would not have got that close no matter how hard they rode the horse out...

APL if he is guilty then perhaps the sentence could be adjusted but just to ignore the rule because he is one of the hardest working jocks around would be wrong - i do not believe for an instant that their was any malice in the ride but the rule is there to protect owners and punters and the sport in general - it is like saying that Beckham hand balled but we should ignore it because he got so many kids involed in soccer

I have to agree that going strictly by the letter of the law he should be punnished (3 months would be ridiculous) but surely when considering the sentence his previous record must be taken into account a verbal warning would do as much to stop a repeat performance as a suspension would,im not saying that he should get priviledged treatment but would like to see the time fit the crime and a warning would keep him in the saddle doing what he does best for all concerned from the owners and trainers thru to the man in the street ...giving horses superb rides and the best possible assistance from the saddle (a quality that is sadly lacking)and to deprive us of his services for one error in judgment would not serve any positive purpose..
