J J 7/2 for Betfair Cup- Masterpiece to shock em?
15 years 10 months ago
Only one firm running a book and they have J J the jet plane 7/2 2nd best for the 1400m grp2 betfair cup at Goodwood on Tuesday.Main Aim the horse that finished infront of J J int the July Cup at Newmarket is the bookies favourite at 3/1.
Took a quick look at some of the runners.
Asset finished 2nd in the race in 2007 for Richard Hannon, then after being bought by Godolphin in 2008 he had a a good win in Dubai with a verdict over Lipocco.Ran 2nd at Royal Ascot in a big handicap carrying lumps of weight from the wrong side of the track and could run a place..10/1
Main Aim has the potential to be one of the best UK 1400m runners, hard to say if he was unlucky in the July Cup when fleeting Spirit hampered him with 200m to go? Considering he had helped set the pace and that he was quite badly hampered he showed real quality in fighting back and staying on strongly for second.
Main Aim has 3l to spare over Asset in their run in the John o` Gaunt stakes earlier in the season and should confirm with that rival.3/1
Ouqba Impressive winner at Royal Ascot over 1400m, a solid looking race that the form seems to be holding up with the 4th and 5th both winning next time out.Bred to be a decent miler so the strong pace at goodwood will probably be in his favour.9/2
J J THE JET PLANE De Kock(and jamster
) thinks the step up in trip is what JJ is looking for and with Goodwood being mostly Downhill the 1400m is not too testing and could prove to be the ideal trip for him,J J`S early toe should enable him to get an early position which is vital at goodwood and another money run looks possible. 7/2
Sentimental(very) selection for me Court Masterpiece won his first race at at Glorious Goodwood as a 3yo back in 2003 and went on to win a further 2 times once in this race with a shd verdict over Jack Sullivan then in 2006 his final hour was demolishing the likes of Hot favourite ARAAFA and Super filly Soviet Song in the Grp1 Sussex stakes and at the price 25/1 on a track that he has always performed it seems folly to leave him out.
Verdict
Main Aim will take a bit of beating if he repeats his July Cup run ,Ouqba if he is not taking of his feet early will be a big runner and should give Main Aim most to do,with Court Masterpiece back in third ..

J J The Jet Plane can make a seamless return to seven furlongs in the Betfair Cup at Glorious Goodwood.
Mike de Kock's five-year-old has won many new friends in this country after a successful summer campaign.
The South African representative claimed a small Listed heat at Windsor before finishing in the money in the Golden Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup - and can carry on the good work on the Sussex Downs.
J J The Jet Plane is three times a Group One winner and can back up an enviably consistent streak with undoubted class.
De Kock has for a long time toyed with running the son of Jet Master over a mile, so the seven furlongs at Goodwood should be just the ticket - despite the quirky nature of the undulating circuit.
Further evidence of J J The Jet Plane's ability to go the distance can be demonstrated by his run at Newmarket, where his best work in the July Cup came inside the final furlong.
With ground conditions just about ideal, De Kock's charge is a confident selection.

Main Aim out to lift Cup in Goodwood highlight
THE Betfair Cup is the highlight on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood on Tuesday, and the five-day festival springs into action with a classy seven-race card that features three Group races televised live on Channel 4.
Main Aim looks likely to start a warm order for the Group 2 feature following a slightly unlucky second in the Darley July Cup this month.
He looks to have his optimum conditions, as he returns to a trip over which he has only ever been beaten once in four attempts, and connections are anticipating a bold show.
"He ran really well in the July Cup. He was certainly hampered, but whether he would have won is open to some discussion. He's proved he's pretty versatile.
"We know he is very effective at seven [furlongs] because he won so well at Haydock, but he can compete in the top class at six [furlongs] as well," said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Main Aim's owner Khalid Abdullah.
His main opposition could come from Jersey Stakes winner Ouqba, who also ran in the Guineas earlier in the season. Classic form behind Sea The Stars has proved invaluablethis season and, with the Barry Hills yard in good form, he looks a serious danger.
Hills's son Charlie confirmed Ouqba to be in top shape. He said: "We've been happy with him between Ascot and now. It was always the aim to run in this race but Main Aim is a big danger.
"He hasn't got a penalty for his win in the Jersey. He looks pretty well and the ground should be ideal."
Saturday's impressive King George winner Conduit liftedthe Group 3 Betfair Gordon Stakes last year and his trainer, Sir Michael Stoute, has a leading contender in the race in Harbinger.
Not seen since winning a Chester maiden in May, Harbinger was touted as a potential Derby candidate before injury delayed his season.
Stoute has won the race three times in the last ten years and this lightly raced Ladbrokes St Leger entry has plenty of scope for improvement on only his third visit to the racecourse.
Monsieur Chevalier makes a quick reappearance in the Betfair Molecomb Stakes after scooping a huge pot in the Weatherbys Super Sprint ten days ago.
The Richard Hannon-trained colt has only tasted defeat once in six-outings and carries maximum stable confidence as he bids to land a maiden victory at Group level.
"Monsieur Chevalier was very impressive in the Super Sprint, and, although Goodwood is a much easier five furlongs, they often go off very fast and the leaders come back.
"Hughesie [Richard Hughes] will ride his normal race from behind and hope that the colt picks up like he did at Newbury, and this does not look the strongest renewal of the race, so, with Chevalier seemingly still thriving, he goes there with a big chance," said Hannon, speaking on the stable's website on Monday.

Racing the right way round today with the long undulating straight I think we might see the Jet Plane motor today. Best of luck Lucky.
