Was this the only reason he got such a long ban? or was he on the hunted list?

Won't comment on the sentence, but told by a trainer(before the warning off) that horse carring big weight, over distance(name escapes me now,but remember the race) weights were discarded in tunnel between parade ring and race course(Greyville),duly won,and weights replaced in tunnel on return.
Hard to call that a misunderstanding and he must have understood the consequences.
I'm not saying he doesn't deserve another chance, but important that those with views, know what happened, and I think the source is reliable!

the horse ran 2nd he didnt win..rob greg cheyne also knew exactly what he was doing ..its simple the nhra are a law unto themselves but when taken to a court of justice they get a fuck up the aas with a sharp stick..unfortunately it takes a lot of money and plenty of time to get to the supreme court in this country of ours..he has served his time and to deny him a chance to even be a workrider assistant etc anywhere in the world is an absolute disgrace..i recall brian passmore pulling a horse up in front of the grandstands at clairwood and losing his license but he has owners colours and is an assistant working at clairwood...the man wants to earn a living whether it be an assistant or workrider or ultimately if possible a jockey but these damn idiots wont allow it...would that stand up in any justice system in the world

I recall the Gavin Howes case and it was clearcut that he was in the wrong and he was given a life ban. There is a few instances however whre life bans have been overturned in order to allow jockeys back into the game...Fortune and Morgenrood being examples.
It would of course be up to Howes to show that he has sorted his life out and if he has then by all means he deserves to be given another chance...

If we ban all the jockeys that do things wrong...
who will be left...the starter...

To cry over spilt milk...a waste of time..

Gavin Howes should be gratefull...the door has closed..HE NOW GOT THE BREAK..A BREAK FROM RACING...
he is free...as if he arrived here on earth today......
what does he want to do with his life...
start..get going..5 years later..he will be happy...will thank them for the ban..

strange...but true....

Pirates,up until a couple of years ago I could quote the name of that passmore horse(my mate Tony Dumas used to do the commision for the stable)...he(B Passmore ) got 6 months for that.
Only Ricky Ginsberg was better at coup's than the Passmores(only down the straight at clairwood)

R50k/R20k
R50k/R40k

in the past Turfontein goldring..could go round once and have R400k..all at the same price..

Andre, odd occasion I helped to place a portion, especially for The Ginsberg bets and there was more money available in those days, even in Durban...Tommy Morgan,M Ratner,Freeman,Airey's etc held those bets individually....maybe balls grew bigger in those days.
