Give the MAN a break

Its an absolute disgrace that a person , in no, matter what industry is deprived of making a living for themselves and to feed and care for their families.
Case in question –Jockey , Gavin Howes, warned off some 5 years ago, for not weighing in correctly or for whatever the reason maybe. Yes he was guilty, so I am told – the race went ALL CLEAR, the owner lost his 2nd stake cheque, the horse was 10/1 – who else lost? And the Jock GETS A LIFE BAN- Pathetic.
An accountant embezzles a few million and gets caught – does 3 years jail – out on good behavior and then can still work as an accountant but cant sign off a balance sheet. Why cant a jockey who perhaps cost a few punters in trifectas or whatever bet – under R50 000 I would guess- at least ride work to make a living – whether it be in SA or overeas. A shocking decision of NO was given – so a man who enters the academy at 14, knows only 1 trade and now is denied even to ride work in this country. Guilty or not – wrong or right – A MAN DESERVES THE RIGHT TO EARN A LIVING, cases in question Wilie Uys – the punters sat on the track- he is still riding – Greg Cheyne – pleaded guilty to an offence and now a SA Ambassador overseas, not to mention Andrew Fortune and Kevin Shea who were under constant surveillance by the stipes- yet all continue to earn a living.
Give the man a break – or is it their intention to wait for a disaster and then act. Wake up before your conscience is blotted for life.

Good morning eyesman and must say do not have the background but this indeed sounds tragic, who are the powers that could reverse this decision?

Not a bad shout and put quite well. In my opinion though the problem lies with the punishment dealt out to the accountant he/she too should be banned for life. This thing is sport is a tough one because sport is supposed to be pure. You have to ask yourself if Hansie was still alive would he have been allowed to coach kids if the answer is NO then Gavins punishment is correct. If you feel Hansie would have eventually been aloowed back into the game he clearly loved then Gavin should be allowed back.
FOr me life should mean life in in punishment.

NHRA or Jockey Club i would thin
the man rode plenty graded race winners for well known trainers and owners
has a bit of a wobbly and now basically told to F*** OFF.

eyesman if he wants to come back, saying a bit of a wobbly is not the way to go.
i would say, he needs to look people in the eye and say " i fucked it up. the reasons were these. i am human. walking on water is very difficult for me. I AM SORRY AND THIS IS WHY IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. do an andrew fortune and put community hours in as part of the "penance". Talk to the schoolkids and say look at me crime dont pay.
The NHRA are also humans. They should recognise mistakes and not play god. This can be a win win scenario. They should remember our champion jockey used his second chance, give it to Howes. 5 years of not earning money is more than enough punishment

all i say is there seems to be different strokes for different folks, depends whoi the stipes etc are.
Howes, Fortune, Shea - all years ago deemed crooks - now2 are heros, yet the other cant get a sniff in to even ride work and on abilty Gavin aint far off them.

Every person in life needs to get a second chance..we all make mistakes and I mean ALL ..even the powers that be and without 2nd chances where would we be today?
