My take on this issue and really it started with a simple question is that the guidelines should be clear and easily understood as to how to win a very coverted and lucritive title of SA Breeder of the Year.
Surely to goodness a breeder of a foal is the person who owns the mare at the time of its delivery onto the planet..just as the jockey of the year is the the jockey who rides the horse to earn the win and the trainer of the year is the trainer who trains the horse to win its stake cheque.
This is very simple.
If I own a mare and it stands at a stud farm, gets covered and is delivered at that stud farm it does not automatically mean that the stud farm the horse is bred at gets credited for the stake to go forward as its contribution to the title.
Also although I do agree that horses bred at other studs, including overseas studs can be sold at the ready to run sale and then qualify to run in the 4th highest stakes race in SA. the gap there is for all to see..breed or buy a horse locally or internationally that could hopefully make it into the race..enter it on the r2r sale..buy it back..pay the comm and you qualify for a race that could if you win earn a title maybe for your trainer..R750k goes a long way to achieve this.
In the true sense of the competition it should be open to horses bought at the r2r sale which are born at Summerhill and owned outright by the farm.
I might be way off the topic but thats just my opinion.

Karel, I also detect sarcasm in Jack's last post! Kobus, there is nothing to stop owners of mares boarding at Summerhill from breeding under their own name. Consider Thorpe & Zeeman, Shadwell, etc.

Gooden Morgen Mr. Lips.
So are they the real winners?
Ask yourself the question.
Why would they want the other mare owners horses/mares on there scorecard if it isn't just to win the breeders champions award?
My man Oscar caught them out... thats all.

Caught them out doing what Kobus? It's not illegal. You know the old saying-there are lies, damned lies, and statistics. PS Mick must be loving this free publicity!

You have to admit, their marketing is world class! What a wonderful world it would be if Phum and GC were half as good at promoting their product.

Nobody can beat Mick Goss with their marketing.
In a class of their own.
Don't forget the natural horse men the "Zulu's"

Such strange questions.
Whoever owns the mare and foal pays registration fees and gets the breeder's premium (where it exists).
So simple.
A client who boards at Summerhill will do so in his own name.
There are many who do.
Or if he's in partnership, in a partnership name.
Partnerships happens all over the country.
I am (and have been for years) in partnerships.
You register mares and offspring in whichever way you want.
