Thanks for another good post Jack
"The tote is the greatest no risk money spinner ever invented"
A fair call, but I thought a betting "exchange" was also a great invention "matching punters with opposing views anywhere in the panet" and taking a percentage from the winner, what a pleasure.

Mr H, why should the non-horse owning public give a flying duck about the stakes? They will go where they perceive they get value and P should try and improve their own product as a counter measure instead of squawking like menopausal parrots and doing jack shit.

Of course P should try to improve their own product, but I think the point is that having tipsters on a Phumelela show basically advising punters to take a bet with the opposition is surely questionable to say the least; if Mr Maree advises a 'fixed place bet' on his private tipping line it is another story - my opinion only

If the tote is a shambles that is not Mr Maree's problem and if they try to use only tipsters who are prepared to overlook that fact they will end up with nobody who is worth two cents.

exactly the point Magic that's why I'm saying if you work for phumelela you should be trying to keep your customers not chase them to bookmakers to take a bet(as much value as you think it offers the punter) as your core business is a betting exchange where one punter takes on another and you make a % by offering this facility. If you want to compete with bookmakers then put one in every tote not only in 17% of your branches and expect your punters to wonder around trying to find one of these branches to help owners out. There is a place for both but I'm sure if Hollywood stopped offering tote bets you would not have a sign in your branches suggesting the Magiclips Exacta/Sw for the day knowing they could not place the bet with you.

It is exactly because Daryl is that GOOD that it frigtens me because people myself included listen to what he has to say and if he says this is a way to make money people will listen. Just remember he is regarded by many as one of the best tipsters in the country and I've seen horses shorten because he tipped them so his power should never be underestimated.

As for the greatest moneyspinner ever invented I'll go a triple dead heat between the tote, the lottery, and Christmas. I used to have time for one of them, but now I'm not so sure.

So we would advocate bullying the likes of Mr Maree instead of addressing the real issues and not treating the customer like an irritating moron? A bit arse about face, I would have thought.
