When I was a kid and started frequenting the tote, my mates were two old WW2 Burma veterans.Besides the point but ' Curly ' had seen 2 months action before the Versailles signing in 1918. Between the old guys who are longtime gone they must have had over a hundred years racing experience. Their favourite chirp was...'' We all know so much about the game and that's why we all got farms in Adderley Street, Cape Town ''

Chain matey it will be the saddest day in my life if all the totes close - the memories I have from standing in those long lines with my dad and then going home to listen to races on the radio are priceless(like other kids maybe went hunting or fishing with their dad - my bonding was punting with my dad - he's stopped punting for about ten years as he got bored I think) I wish that excitement could come back into racing> I'd love to give all those guys young and old a chance to enjoy their punting in a modern well looked after space. Just because they punt does not make them lesser citizens as some within the industry believe. My dream would be to see yourself, Darryl, Cecil Neil etc broadcsast from a FULL tote showing the boys having fun. I recall how James Maphiri was greeted as a celeb in the totes as will you and the other guys. I know how that you guys are loaded with a love for the game and it is a pity that the guys that make the decisions have no intrest and just see it as a money making machine. The guys in the totes listen to you and each has their favourite presenter.
Matey yesterday I bet rugby, won my bets but felt really crappy 'cause racing is my true love and it's so sad to see the hole we have dug for ourselves. You guys have the chance to salvage the sport - I don't think we can ever get back to where we were but maybe we can stabilise the exodus by considering the small guy. I think that the saying 'Racing is in your blood' sums it up. If it's not then you will never understand the punter and always fail him.
