J&B Met Log

Three-time J & B Met winner Pocket Power heads up the preliminary log for the Western Cape showpiece to be run at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday, January 29.

Second on the log is this year’s Met runner-up and also runner-up in the recent Sansui Summer Cup, Mother Russia.

You know that nothing stays the same for long in racing when someone makes a case for a PE Listed winner to be higher up the pecking order than an Irish Derby winner. Although with the record that PE horses are building up internationally I can maybe see your point. :)-D

Not to mention that in two-and-a-half years, Frozen Fire has never come within a country mile of repeating his Curragh heroics,

The test will be when he goes over ground, which hopefully will be on Monday, but I seem to remember that when O'Brien still had him he started red hot favourite in a three horse field at Chester and finished a lonely third. They made all sort of excuses (slow pace, thight track, etc.), but the more time which passes the harder it is to believe that Frozen Fire could have won the Norwegian Derby, let alone the Irish. :D

Yip, horses may not loose their ability but they certainly could loose their will to race competitively?
Not for me that Frozen Fire, not on Monday, not ever again.

I can choose not to back anything in his races and just be a spectator.............

Anyway I think MDK has lost just a bit of form of late? His horses are running quite badly all over the place? Maybe it's not quite an astute observation but it is one none the less ;)

I did try and warn you about that Midden, although he had shown something in a couple of runs..

Will always remember him virtually refusing to run in a 3 horse race at chester..

A doubt they will be wanting to CHOP HIS NUTTS OFF ?

How Coolmore managed to sell him was a comment made from the studio in the UK yesterday,if you take the brilliant Eagle Mountain away from the horses MDK has bought from Coolmore,we all know who got the better deal!

ps cant wait till he proves me wrong lol

I won't write him off until he gets to run over ground. I suppose he is ultimately destined to be a stallion (although he might have too much stamina for SA tastes?), but he has run in all of his Jhb races like a horse running over a distance which is too short. Especially second time out, where he admittedly carried a very light weight but where he ran on well behind Galileo's Galaxy.

Monday will be make-or-break for him, if he does turn out again. I bet that De Kock has plans for Frozen Fire, who could be one of those horses that doesn't show a great deal in work and who needs races to get fit. I'm just guessing here, but you get horses like that and stayers, especially, are not always the sorts to work like bullets at home. Still, we also should remember that it was an extremely rough Irish Derby that he won, where his better fancied stable companion (I forget which one) was cleaned up along with a couple of others at a vital stage of the race.

Alexander Volta drifted in Frozen Fires Derby squeezing up Curtain Call and hampering the Favourite Tartan Bearer(stoute) and Frozen Fire come down the outside and won going away.

Volta was disqualified and placed 3rd behind Fire and Tartan
