Barry, everything in life is based on "timing " being at the right place at the right time - being late for that meeting at the 911 towers etc., not catching an ill fated flight etc. due to a traffic jam.etc.
you say had Bold Silvano not been withdrawn, you probably would not have sold ! again Good or BAD timing on your part............. only time will tell, we sure will know this time tomorrow.
Do you really hope the horse wins tomorrow, or would that be sour grapes ?
I recently bought a CHEEPY " chuck out " maiden horse....... won for me on 3rd or 4th start........... I'm not too sure if the SELLER was too chuffed about that ( i got my purchase price back & profit with that 1 win )

Barry, I'm sure Gitano Hernando had an off day ( what a time to have an OFF DAY ) on the racing world's richest pay day.
well, in hindsight..... you've got to be happy with the sale............. as I said before, IT'S ALL ABOUT TIMING IN LIFE...... and you sure got this wone right !......LUCKY ?

As mentioned on other thread did not enjoy the race I felt it was a "false" run race, if run again would get a totally different result with an injection of pace.............imvho

A Saudi runner that had been imported from Argentina who had won by huge margins in Saudi would have set a fast pace if he had been invited, but he wasn't because apparently the handicappers didn't think highly enough of him. It was a strange looking race because of the lack of pace, with everybody reaching for holds during the early stages of the running.
As for Gitano, I think he ran his race under the conditions. He had plenty of famous horses lined up behind him.

Yes agree the race was won very cleverly by the italian jockey . I read in the citizen that Kevin Shea noticed Victoire pisa make the move at the 1000 m mark and considered tracking him at the time . He decided against it as he felt that by tracking Twice over he was were he originally planned to be and was the right horse to follow through the race . Who knows what would've happened had Kevin decided to go after Victoire Pisa .
Just goes to show how alert the riders need to be in a race , how being a judge of pace is crucial and how a split second decision can make or break .They need to think quick make a decision and act fast and at the same time stay on an animal moving at + 16m per second .

so should jockeys get instructions or should it be left to them to ride the race as they find it?

Imo Pirates it depends ,some trainers know their horses well . I am not against jockeys riding to instructions on one condition . The race needs to pan out in a certain way for that to happen . If it does not then the jockey needs to brain up and use his own judgement . For example the jck gets told to jump out and try and sit 3 to 4 of the leader then just before the straight push out . Whats the use of doing this if there is no pace and you sitting 4 lenghts off no pace . This is were imo if a jock knows pace he must take the bull by the horn and set it to suit his mount ala Striker .
