Test your methods on paper first before commiting any real money for at least three months I'd say. Once you have proven to yourself that you have a winning strategy, bet small at first. Money management is key in any form of pro gambling. Do not get too emotionally involved, you need a very cool head and nerves of steal. Not all bookies are the same, look for the ones that offer the best prices. Don't follow any tipsters, your goal should be to create your own strategy that works.

I made enough money to start my own printing company about 15 years ago.

This, after a leading politician's wifewith whom I was in partnership in a travel agency, had nothing to show after 6 months. She splurged all the profits on designer outfits and shoes, etc for parties with her hubby!

With what little I had left, I invested in my life-long ambition of owning a racehorse.... eventually! I chose a Goldmark yearling (Summer Ridge, cost R9 000) and the trainer he went to in KZN is history (as he is no more!).

From late Buddy Maroun, I eventually sent him to Fritz Roux in Kimberley. He won 3 races on the trot for me and at no stage did I 'put money on'; I think R50 was the most! (I don't follow trainer's tips, jockeys, yipsters, etc... I make my own decision based on what factors & elements seasoned punters depend on (variable and fixed); form, jockey, track, trainer, distance, weather, etc)

With the stakes money, I invested in printing equipment.... from that day, I have never looked back!

I still punt with what does not hurt my pocket (or business); and I have a fair amount of fun, don't ever go to the tote, bookies or race tracks and bet by email with a bookie who is more of a mate..... win or lose!

You decide; make money punting, or, through owning.... or, just some enjoyment ot see your fancy run!

Good advice indeed.
Since joining the site I became selective and playd small with success.
Going to big at times was hurting but on advice from ABC made me show profits.
Beware of chasing losses, that also hurt at times.
Follow GB and those in the know.
More joyful @ less stresful for ABC is indeed th Name of th Game.
Thanks to ALL

if we serious for a few minutes on this topic how do brand new punters who want to bet on racing learn firstly all the diffirent bets on offer and secondly how to study form pedigrees etc...gambling on horses is far more complex than slot machines or playing roulette..are phum gold making enough effort in educating new customers and their current ones or are the casinos such as piggs peak etc way ahead?iv tried to explain roving bankers etc to intelligent people and they cant get to grips with it and the other terms with racing
