East since I started being disciplined and only have 1/2/3 place bets a day I have seen phenomenal growth on my investment,

I used to think when I miss one race that it is a missed opportunity...NOT mate, certainly NOT... now I study hard and go through my rules and based on those I pick my place bets on a daily basis...2 - 4 races on average a day...and there is very seldom a day where I do not have atleast one selection that gets through my rules which I then punt for places only,

I only expose 25% of my bank kitty on any given place bet which covers for any losses and never going bust. I have started treating this like any other business in 2011 and I can honestly say that NO business can grow like this one...not in a million years....you cannot find a share on the JSE that can grow by 20%, 30% , 40% every day!!

So I am stating 200% growth per month as the absolute minimum...

I reckon I will even start a threat called "Lets Get Serious" in June...and all I want to have on this thread is s spreadsheet with the day's selection/s and the price achieved to place on the exchanges (the tote is at least 25% worse)

There should be classes @ school on horseracing same as there is in other forms of life where there is an opportunity for money to be made...this one believe me is the easiest you will ever find....

if you are prepared to get to know yourself and then rise above the challenge of beating your own shortcomings and become disciplined in allowing yourself the opportunity to be debt free...unencumbered...the price to pay to be disciplined is a small price to pay for the endless amount of free time / laughter / Quality of life you achieve by mastering your own shortcomings and stop treating this as a gamble, rather start treating this as an opportunity to achieve great financial reward.

@Loopy Logic:

En core!

I have been doing that for the past few weeks.... my balances from debit now are going up into credit..... slowly ('cos sometimes I get greedy!)

Recently, I have been selecting 3-4 winners per meeting consistently and catching patents!

That's the route; what you say.... rules... and stick to them!

Loopy and Umlilo

We had a similar thread about 2 years ago. I had given the same advise and was told by the seasoned punters, on this forum as well, that punting would never make us money in the "long run". This is where you Guys are wrong. In my opinion, you will always make money in the "long run" but NEVER in the "short run".

I will say this once more and I am glad that I have Loopy and Umlilo to back me up on this one. Punting on horses is the easiest form of making money.
I have done it , intermittently since 1995 so I know what I am talking about.
My aim ,almost every day is to make a profit of between R200 - R250.00 per race. I race 6 days a week on an average of 220 races per month (local only). I start the day off with a kitty of R2000.00 .
I need about R40 000.00 per month to live a comfortable life and I am lucky enough to travel overseas at least twice a year. I do not drive flashy cars (SARS).

In fact about 10 years ago TAB closed my telephone betting account because I was accused of using it like a current account (and I was).

NB: the above is not bragging but in the context of the thread I thought it was necessary to add weight to the above comments.

why would tab close your account?they only closed accounts if they thought that there was money laundering or people deposited in your account and you withdrew it so you avoided bank charges..

That,s what they did.

you could call it that. because of constant deposits and withdrawals.

Don"t do that anymore. Plenty of other online sites available now.

Umlilo, Eastexpo & Loop Logic it seems like you guys have mastered the art of punting.(tu)
I think every comment on this thread can only enrich one's knowledge, there is sound advice for
future success as well as pitfalls for those that don't have decipline or a strategy for punting.
Awesome, inspiring stuff!!!

@Tero:

Tnx for the compliments.

Forums such as this and 'inside' info (albeit about once a week) from owners such as NewTurf (of course, not forgetting the others!), help to make decisions.

However, often, I don't follow the 'info' and stick to my own evaluated choice/s. This weekend past was a fabulous run for me; I had at least 5 winners on Saturday and followed up with another 6 on Sunday- from debit, I went into credit!

I must say there are some outstanding, highly knowledgeable tipsters on this forum! There are those who will say you need luck; I agree, a dash of it helps! However, playing by your rules (discipline) remains the best luck, even if you miss out on a hunch! There are many instances where I felt a horse would win, but, hesitating, ended up not betting it..... and the horse runs cold!

At the end of the day, it's a learning curve for us all after every race is run; including the horse, jockey, owner, trainer ..... and punter!

:)-D

Thanks for starting this thread.
Its awesome.
My question be :
How do you get to selecting 3 horses for the day as stated by some Clan Gents.
Win or loose, do they realy stick to that number.
Perhaps UD must come in here to advice if we should follow the best bets of the day and do selections as per our personal favourites.
Yes I do follow some of the CLANMAN.
Thanks Gents.
Give us more .
Its appreciated.

Frank I would not blindly follow any tipster if I wanted to be a pro. I have been running this fun competition for a few months now with the help of some very kind sponsors. More often than not, profitable competition tipsters in the previous month show losses in the current month. Remember it is a competition, and many players make plays they would never make in real life. I have often seen tipping competition players wage their entire balance on a single outcome, win or lose a pro would never do that. Some pro's wage less than 1% of their entire balance per bet. Many of our competition players have been eliminated with very high strike rates, others are ranked very highly with low strike rates. I cannot stress learning good money management enough.

@Frank1949:

'How do you get to selecting 3 horses for the day as stated by some Clan Gents"

I am pre-empting here but this is how I work:

1. I get the 'feel' of the card by perusing the trainers and jockeys. My 6th sense activates when I note a leading jockey SUDDENLY on a ride for a small or lesser performing stable. I look into all possible reasons for this arrangement to either add it or drop it.

2. Then I go through each race and 'feel' it again. Sporting Post's ratings give me a lot of indications. Where I feel uncomfortable, I discard the race (sometimes, after going through the rest of the card, I might revert to that particular race!)

3. I then make in-depth study of the races (I often follow certain stables, such as Drier at KZN, Greef and Smith at PE and Azzie in Gauteng, besides always keeping an eye out for Y Govender and a few others, like Scott Kenny, Botes, Magner, Goosen, Houdalakis, De Kock and Woodruff).

4. From that, I sift out at the most 4 races where I find 'springers' or certs! From amongst them, I compile my Patent and/or all to come each way doubles. When playing these, my ratio of place to win stakes is 4-1.

The above is laying it on very basically; there are numerous other indicators, such as breeding, trainer, jockey, track, mass, time (collateral helps). As for time, I don't go by the latest only; I also look into past times recorded & note how that fares with the rest of the field. That's why, SP's ratings are a massive boon!

Over to you others!

In the meanwhile, I am going over the relevant forms and indicators of all the parties in tomolrrow's elections! Got a lot more work to do before I put my X!

Lol!

i notice from reading most of these threads that nobody mentions how the horse looks in the flesh and how it moves down to the start...for me this is THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR after its form
