Trainer Fined

TRAINER James Goodman has been fined R65,000 after Seven Network, a horse for whom he is responsible, tested positive for the prohibited substance Diclofenac after running at Scottsville on 7 November 2010.


Goodman pleaded not guilty to the charge and was legally represented, so has no right of appeal.

Seven Network has been disqualified from the race in question.

Almost a year after the incident? How long does this process take?

is this his first?

and what about the punters who lost money in that race???

Horse racing consider by many as the most honest sport.
Perhaps this is the 1st time in SA's history the authorities have tested a horse for a prohibited substance.
R65k fine should prevent trainers from using prohibited substances on their horses..... lol

65K a pretty stiff fine for using Voltarin.... if one wants to make sure the anti inflammitory will make the horse win I think that a stronger more effective drug would be far better because the fine is going to be the same.....but honestly do you think that any trainer would risk his reputation and possible career by trying to cheat with a substance that cannot possibly make a horse a racing certainty....after all some trainers according to another thread are being aided to use far worse drugs than Voltarin.....

If Diclofenac does not enhance the performance of a horse.....why are the authorities imposing a fine on the trainer?

I am not sure the 'drug' Diclofenac was used to try and improve this horses performance - doesn't seem they even backed it. The drug is not known as a performance enhancing drug either. Just a admin slip - but the penalty pretty severe.

the irony is that the horse who ran 2nd ensign lavery won his maiden beating franki mercury and months later had the race taken away from him also because of a drug charge...unfortunately he couldnt return to contest maidens and had to run in open company

Seems that was quite a doping race - maybe more suspensions will follow

James Goodman over the years is no angel ask the patrons who owned horses with him ,also a member of the special group.I personally feel like listing a host of names as I have been racing for 30 years .What does the forum think.I also thought as a colour holder if you were convicted and jailed you were no longer allowed to race but a special member of the group was jailed but is still raceing with his Group.no names mentioned pure fact.Anyone guess the mans name??????????? middle name I think is Lex LOL

I remember Goodman made Noseweek once. He does have quite a large nose!
