That's was really interesting Justin, it's given me a brand new insight into the handicapping system.
Just one negative ... and please, I almost never criticise people's grammer/spelling/etc, but this is important for you to be correctly understood ... you said, "the fact is handicappers are the only people who dont have an invested interest in the horses so they can be 100% subjective..unlike owners and trainers and punters!"
It's not Subjective, its Objective. In the context I know what you mean but in a less-obvious context it could give people the idea you mean the opposite of what you do mean. Peace, bro!

Justin, maybe you explain to me why Ebony Flyer has remained at 107 since winning the Guineas. That should be entertaining!

Barry,
the handicapper had a better solution than to drop Ebony Flyer: they raised Frequent Flyer to 102 (from 94), presumably using Barcelona Winter (100) and Dance with Al (99) as line horses.
That puts Ebony's comfortable win close to her 107 (on 105 or 106).

hi barry..its simple..she has never earned more than 107..her victories have always come in conditions races against fillies where she is carrying the same weight as fillies rated in some cases substantially below her and she is always weighted to win

So I guess that Beach Beauty and Gibraltar Blue didn't run their races against Ebony Flyer?

Hi JustinV - lots of q's, need to discuss over a beer..
I think Frodo explains it better than what I can.
" >The 'problem' with Gross Ratings for younger
> horses are that the rating they get is meant to
> reflect the rating they should achieve when fully
> matured - according to the 'official' WFA scale".
Is this not the extra rating the younger horses get over and above the actual race rating? Your previous posting suggests this is not so.

I can't say much about all this MR talk, coz I'm no expert, but I can say the beach beauty run to EF couldn't have been run to her true rating as she was coming back after a break and a distance short of her best..1st run in CT as well, ran on strongly though(so my logic says didn't run her race).. Gibraltar blue definitely never run her race the mile is too far 4 her and with the headwind made it more difficult..I don't think she stays..
All being that being said Barry, Ebony Flyer is a super star, I love her and she has always had my money at the Kenilworth mile, even when she beat Igugu, and both her Queens Plate runs, and most definitely when she won the majorca stakes.. You have a super star..be happy and accept that she is world class..bring that same field back next year for the stakes and she will beat them by 5/6 lengths

Barry,
Until we get sectional timing, the handicappers will never understand what happens in races.
The Majorca was not a true run race (there was another mile on the day, where the seventh horse posted a faster time than Ebony Flyer).
False run races can not be rated and extreme conservatism should be applied.
Rating Frequent Flyer the way they did is obscene.
This is a battle we cannot win right now.

Most sensible post on this page (tu). Although JustinV does give some good insights... stick around young man.
