Read carefully i ONLY pay his flight if he ONLY rides my horse. If he picks up another ride on the day he forfeits the flight money

so now there are 3 people agreeing with me......

One of them is not only a trainer (predicted by me as the best) BUT he was also an agent to pierre Strydom.

Mr Goosen, do you think that a jockey riding 10 horses a month should seek an alternative career path?

what about 20?

30?
40?

Sir, there I can agree with you, because if they only come work for you now and then then they can expect to only get 1 ride, maybe even none..But what if they work everyday for you and put in that extra effort? They come to work even if it's raining and the tracks are flooded..Then I think they should atleast get 3 to 5 rides per meeting?

Titch

NOTHING but this other jockey deserves a chance, has been
struggling
battling
working hard
unlucky
stiff
misjudged
picked on

PLEASE indulge me in this theory of mine.

Yes, Miss Becky, like Chase Maujean, who is being rewarded with a retainer and rides from the stable and also rides from other stables...

The point is that nobody just "gets rides". They EARN them, one way or another.

easy, what if this " other jock " comes & surprises all & WINS ON YOUR HORSE. what will that tell us ? what is the way forward for this jock ? the odds are certainly stacked up against him - probably about 14 / 1 depending how many horses in the field ? or is he drawn in the sh!t house ?

No offense to anyone on this thread. Our stable gave one of the above a chance, paying his NHRA fines, buying food for his family and decent clothing so he could look decent at the races. He was told that he would be able to get the extra rides for his help. This lasted about a month until he either didn't arrive for work or arrived under the influence. For our help we were rewarded by being slated to all and sundry as just using him as a work rider...

There is a belief in PE with the local jockeys and apprentices that they only ride work if they get rides, not the other way round. While Vikram Sola was here with Grant Paddock he went out of his way to come and ride work, thus his winning ride on Bermuda Prince.

We had asked another appie to ride Bermuda and he couldn't be bothered to confirm the ride, excuse was that he didn't have our phone no, by the way there are 4 of us in the yard and he couldn't find any of us. Anton Marcus runs around Clairwood riding work for every trainer there, not demanding their rides. Gavin Venter was a jockey in that mold and rode work for whoever was at track . Both Anton and Gavin gave trainers their time and input generously. Wish Gavin would become the Apprentice master here then appies would learn a bit of respect and work ethic.......

Chris Taylor is a visiting jockey that books his return flight for late on Sat am so that he can ride work here on Sat am on any horses, not just his rides.

I do not believe any joc can bring a horse home. Some jocs know pace, can place their rides better and know what they have under them - any they are the top ones. As far as possible I will stick with these jocs - after all if an owner has to pay as we have to these days I guess it is our right...
