i think its a rather poor field only because top 3yos like variety club gimmethegreenlight and slumdog millionaire are all missing, igugu and the apache both gone overseas plus dancewiththedevil and bravura both likely to be missing this year ...in fact im battling to pick a final field of 20...definitly lacks quality and the fact that ila bella is second favourite after getting hammered last week says it all

My opinion, firstly Silver Flyer for tomorrow, won't win because it's intended to be his prep for the July. During an interview with Delpech on Tuesday, he mentioned the horse wouldn't be ready for Saturday, however don't let me put you off punting it tomorrow. Can't see them murdering the horse for the sake of a Grade 3 race.
Getting back to Ilha Bela, watch the Woolavington race again, Marcus only used the whip in the last 60m or so, because the horse was hanging in quite badly. From the top of the straight until that point, the horse literally took off. I have mentioned previously they will employ different tactics on July day, i think she will race a lot handier. She is a small horse, however smaller horses handle tighter courses a lot better than big horses, someone mentioned Teal, prime example, fondly referred to as The Pocket Rocket because of his size. People are concerned that she needs a long straight such as Turffontein, i don't think so, she has an amazing turn of speed, and the field may be chasing her home going through the last 200m on the big day.
For what it's worth, Ilha Bela actually opened 50/1 for the July, go and check your records or ask your bookie. After the Oaks win, the bookies priced her up 10/1, the following Monday, 8/1.
Ilha Bela punters, fear not, you will be smiling at about 4.30pm on Saturday, 07th July. Your fancy is in the hands of the best trainer in South Africa, who knows what it takes to win this race.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

I respect the views of the clansmen, Bayern I am however in your court. I saw the race the same way as you did.
I am one of those that had taken the 40/1 on Ihla Bella.
I hope that she can win for us.
I am a big Marcus fan.

You guys think if Taipan wins the Derby come 24 June 2012 in style, will he get into the July??? I know it is a big ask, because it seems you can put the number on the board with Shogunnar, but if Taipan wins (merit 98) beating Shogunnar (Merit rating 105) will there be any possiblity of him being in the final field?

The problem is the final field will be declared on 21 June ,so barring a lot of scratchings and a miracle or 2,It maybe to late Im afraid!

Sigh :X
Just have to start nibbling on some Pomodoro - English Garden - Ihla Bella - Chesalon - Silver Flyer - Bulsara now! Can be the Quartet boxed for some. Big Race Day's one has to go with big owners/trainers......
So much for going into 1 single horse for th July, something that will never happen again!
